Punk wasn't bashing the crowd, he was being totally honest. There's a difference.
Cheap heel heat is when a guy comes out and says "This town sucks, it's sports teams suck and it's notable residents suck."
Punk's promo was more of a "I don't wrestle for the fans, I do it for myself. I didn't wrestle tonight because I love this town and wanted to entertain you. I wrestled because I wanted to, I wanted to be a star and be watched and get paid"
Now the Rock's promo on the other hand WAS generic face promo. It was all "don't insult the people, the best are the best" etc etc etc.

You're getting suckered into the work (not a bad thing, I may add). Of course he cares about entertaining the fans, he's just disgruntled at crowd reactions and puppetry, how they treat certain wrestlers etc. |

Rubbish! His promo was heel work designated at getting a negative reaction from the fans. He's the Super Heel, Rock is the Super Face. The set-up and execution was perfect, bring on Royal Rumble. |

Nobody should be criticizing Punk for this. He attacked the crowd because he's feuding with the Rock. It was meant to enhance the Rock's promo and it worked very well.
I don't buy the argument that he's stating the truth it's just well thought out promo that enhances his character. Wrestling isn't black and white. Everyone has their own tastes and just because most of the guys with Punk's attributes falls in the minority doesn't mean it's wrong or unfair.
