That's just it. Bryan has the respect and reputation of a serious worker, it's not the same as someone like Santino winning it. He wouldn't be just another comedy character, it would be different with DB.

Daniel Bryan is good enough in the ring that he can be funny. But we've never had fun, funny characters who could work succeed in the company.

You just sold me on it. Kurt Angle could do the craziest, funniest things BECAUSE we knew he was the best. (And because being the best doesn't mean being some macho, anti-hero.) Bryan is still completely serious in the ring, and that's all he's gotta do to make this stuff work.
