Canned heat on Raw

I hate pre-recorded reactions being dubbed over the real crowd.. but over the last few years I have come to accept that Smackdown, being pre-recorded, is going to have canned heat. I can accept this knowing that WWE leave Raw's reactions alone, with it generally being live most of the time.

Even when they pre-taped Raw I don't remember them dubbing anything over, yet the last 2 episodes of Raw were pre-taped (24th and 31st) and the canned heat was just ridiculous. Ziggler is getting cheered like a face at PPV's, it is simply not believable to see him getting booed two weeks in a row. (Yes, I say that even though he plays a heel... he is so loved by the crowds that the canned heat is just not credible!)

To make it worse, they even had The Miz over-dub one of his lines when he Miz-introduced Vickie Guerrero. I feel lied to. We, as a universe/community/group of fans, whatever you call us, should have the right to cheer and boo for whoever we want, therefore having an impact on the direction and size of our most loved/hated superstars. WWE are getting far too controlling, trying to tell us to cheer for who THEY want us to cheer for, rather than who WE want to cheer for.

Although this is nothing new at all, I just feel that beginning to play canned heat on Raw as well as Smackdown is setting a dangerous precedent for the future of this company.

I still remember a SmackDown after WrestleMania when Daniel Bryan was coming out and they cut to the crowd who were obviously exploding with "YES!" chants, and you can tell they were chanting Yes because they were also doing the hand gesture. Yet, during the show they dubbed the whole crowd with booing.

I never felt my intelligence so insulted before.

This of course was during the beginning of Bryan-YESmania and WWE didn't want us to cheer for Bryan so they barely showcased him during Raw.

Exactly, why waste your money if you're going there to sit on your ass and be bored? It doesn't make much sense it and it's really annoying that people who don't seem even remotely interested in the product are taking away seats from those who are and bringing down the already bad product simultaneously.

I think they only edit these 2 Raws because they weren't important and the crowds were bad. You won't have to worry about it anyway, Raw will be live from here on in.

Yeah, Ziggler gets cheered at PPVs. But let's get real, the guy doesn't come out to that big of a reaction on Raw or Smackdwon unless it's a smark city. Not trying to knock him, it's just the truth.

LOL, it really isn't that big of a deal. It may be slightly insulting, but stop being so sensitive. They're just adhering to kayfabe, you know: the foundation that professional wrestling is built on. Th WWE is a business, they can do whatever they want with they're business. Just like you can choose to cheer who you want, they can choose to work the crowd to their favor. I don't neccesarily agree with it, but it still doesn't change the fact that it's true.

Yes I know you are right really and that they are adhering to kayfabe.. but at the same time kayfabe should be an open fourth wall and not a closed one.

I don't really have a problem with it, unless it were to become permanent. Because then the crowd reactions would have very little meaning, and I love hearing true crowds, and hearing developments in crowd dynamics.

It's so painfully obvious where they add their touch.

It's funny and pathetic in the same time.

It's the WWE... they don't give a damn about the real fans anymore. They've proven it time and time again. And really, they detest the fans for not cheering who Vince proclaims as god and they don't boo who he proclaims as the devil. You can tell he has become petty over the fact the fans don't like his shit.

I agree that sometimes is sounds/looks bad when they can the cheers in but when the camera cuts to the crowd, it's blatand that no one is cheering at all, etc. But I can understand why they do it too. It's about presentation. It looks pretty stupid if they bill someone up as a big star and they come out to zero reaction. I'm no sound engineer, but I do wonder if they could make it more subtle though. As that way you could find a happy medium between having obvious fake sound effects and leaving crappy fan reactions as they are which makes WWE look bad.

As for the whole Ziggler being cheered and you feeling lied to, well that's just silly. The whole cheering of heels and booing of faces in general annoys me (although I can understand why fans might boo a babyface that they take particular exception too, although that gets lost when crowds boo every face like some Smarky crowds have done before). It's the whole thing of the wrestling fans that don't get it and trying to play the heels themselves. If as a fan, you really like Ziggler and want him to become a star, then you should boo him out of the building. Heels are meant to get heat, not cheers. That's why CM Punk is a much better performer than Ziggler. He knows how to get heat, whereas Zigglers takes silly bumps and sells like a babyface.

Yeah, I never liked it either. I remember in 2005 they would dub in boos whenever Christian came out and you could clearly see people in the crowd cheering him (either that or they were the happiest booers ever).

It sounds really fake and it just makes it feel like the WWE is trying to manipulate things to be the way they want it to be to the TV audience. If they went with the authentic crowd noise, even if they were dead silent, at least it would come across more naturally.

they been trying it for awhile really. just like when snitsky came out they were blaring boos over the speakers because people were so neutral to them
one of the highlanders said in an interview that any pop they got when they came out was forced pretty much.
I understand it to a business extent but i feel like they need to stop trying to figure out HOW to get crowd pops and figure out why they STOPPED getting crowd pops

that would mean admitting they havent been doing well. and we cant have that :Bischoff

I thought the only show they canned was the Christmas/Troop shows... I knew something was up with the crowd last week on RAW. With the way they cheered Cena at the last part of the show... yeah, I felt like they faked the cheers in or they pre-filmed it like they do with SmackDown and edit the crowd reactions.

I kinda've never was home to see their new years editions of RAW as it was on, so I never knew that was also pre-recorded.

But it's fine, as long as only three RAWs are canned and pre-recorded, I'm fine. I'd rather not have every show have canned crowds because I hate that. It's bad enough we get it all the time on SmackDown, we don't need it on RAW as well.

I mean canned cheer/boos are beyond ridiculous. Let us cheer for who we want ffs. WCW Goldberg chants are even better.

Canned heat was so bad even my friend who hadn't watch the product in over 8 or so years made a mention that it didn't sound authentic. When the causals are pointing it out, now you know...

I feel it's counterproductive to add canned heat to change a positive reaction since they should be using the fans' reactions to push the appropriate talent the right way, thereby giving the fans what they want to see. Why would you change a strong reaction in an era where even getting a reaction is a big achievement in itself?
