Some things WWE have done good since Raw 1000

Every day and week on this forum I see users criticise the current product, some suggesting that it is the worst that it has been. Whilst there are parts of the project since July that have made me shudder, I do not think that everything is as bad as is being made out around here.

Whilst this is not an exhaustive list, some of the things WWE have done good since Raw 1000:

Keeping CM Punk heel - At Raw 1000, Punk GTS'd The Rock at the end of the show, turning heel. Six months later and Punk is still a heel. In the past we have seen WWE booking flip-flop horrendously from people turning face to heel and back to face if the move backfires. It is good therefore that Punk has remained heel since July and leaves more anticipation for Punk vs The Rock at the Royal Rumble. Add in the addition of Paul Heyman and the next few weeks will make for a fantastic build-up.

Keeping CM Punk as WWE Champion - Again, like above, we could have had flip-flop to John Cena and Ryback and then back to Punk, but, they have stuck to their original plan laid out back last July. No swerves along the way, simple booking of proposing a match many months beforehand and it will now come to fruition in a few weeks time. In my opinion, and I know some disagree, with such a long reign, it has increased the credibility of the belt, and it will actually mean something when (if?) The Rock wins the title at the Royal Rumble. I think having him lose the title along the way, only to take it back before the Rumble would have completely undermined the match with The Rock. In kayfabe terms, if you can't beat Ryback then you have no chance against The Rock. Which leads to..

Consistent push for Ryback - Helped by a bit of luck thanks to John Cena's injury, Ryback was elevated into the main event and faced CM Punk inside Hell in a Cell. Since then, Ryback has been consistently on top of the card. No flip-flopping, consistently there. Even if he loses on Monday, he will still have momentum for the Royal Rumble and be a major contender to win it and potentially have Ryback vs Big Show at WrestleMania for the World Heavyweight Championship (although I think Sheamus vs Randy Orton is more likely by the sounds of things).

Long title run for Antonio Cesaro - Since SummerSlam, Cesaro has held the US title and is slowly working through the mid-card scene and slowly getting over as a heel with the crowd. There's not much to say here, I don't expect him to feature heavily in the WrestleMania build-up, but Money in the Bank winner could be on the horizon.

Revitalising the Tag Team scene - Since Raw 1000, the tag team scene has improved with the Rhodes Scholars, Mysterio/Cara and other teams in the mix. The problem here is Kane and Bryan being Tag Team champions, but I would think that they are going to drop the belts soon depending on their WrestleMania plans.

The Shield - Debuting at Survivor Series, The Shield have attacked numerous heels, and a month and a half in, all three have made a big impression. Unlike previously where people have looked green and brought in too early, it looks and feels likes Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose have been brought in at the perfect time. At the moment, they have momentum and need to be protected. These three have a bright future - my own preference would be have Rollins and Reigns face Kane and Bryan at Mania with Ambrose in a separate storyline (I still hope Foley) but time will tell.

The idea that everything is bad is inaccurate in my opinion. Yes, it is not fantastic, but which live TV show is going to be fantastic week in and week out? You do get 'dud' periods and through the motions. In my opinion, a bigger problem than Raw is the completely formulaic SmackDown where you could predict what is coming up in the next segment.

Whilst three hours admittedly at times has been a pain since July, I think it will significantly benefit WWE in the run-up to WrestleMania as there should be screen time for the main feuds as well as the undercard, meaning that people like The Shield and Cesaro should still get important screen time and reach out to new fans alongside the likes of Rock and Lesnar to draw the viewers. I think, and hope, the three hour Raw's will pick-up a lot in the next few months thanks to WrestleMania around the corner.

Re: Some things WWE have done good since Raw 1000

You make good points, but some of your arguments are missing important aspects.

For example, Ryback's push has came off a lot better than expected. The guy is probably the most over guy in the company right now (apart from Cena) but he was thrown into the title picture far earlier than he should of been (Cena's injury forced WWE's hand to try and sell HIAC). The end result being a title match next week on RAW which I really couldn't care less about because it obviously will be a clusterfuck finish. After HIAC I knew Ryback wasn't going to win the title before WM 29, and having him fail in countless title matches does not help his momentum. He should chase the WHC.

The Tag team division has resurfaced yes, but how many times can we see Hell no vs Rhodes Scholars vs Rey/Cara vs PTP before it gets incredibly boring? Give the Usos, Epico+Primo a push, call up the ascension. Kane and Bryan were funny at the start, now are tedious. Bryan is still one of the most over guys on the roster and should go back to singles competition soon.

That said, I can't really argue with any of your other arguments. A lot of people on here never praise just criticize. People are very love/hate towards Punk but I feel his current heel run is great, just look at some of the stuff with Bret Hart/Cena before NOC, very underrated segment. Not as good as his SES run but still has been impressive how he has sold Ryback as a major threat, although I do hate him acting cowardly heel #448482306509.

Dunno about keeping Punk champ. I mean how boring was HiaC, knowing Punk was gonna defend? The tag division is very good ATM. My only concern is that its a temporary rejuvination with near all the tag teams being temporary.

I don't think a predictable outcome eliminates the chance of a good match. The HIAC match was boring to me because the content and story was boring.

Undertaker hasn't seemed to be in any danger of losing a WM match in many years but those fights still draw attention.

Yeah, The Shield was a very good decision by the WWE. Really loving them right now. But I think Punk should turn face, he just had to much momentum to turn heel at that point.

Re: Some things WWE have done good since Raw 1000

WWE is in a good place heading into the RTWM, despite what has been a fairly lackluster few months on Raw and Smackdown.

They have their huge part time names to come back - Lesnar, HHH, Rock, Taker, (Austin?)

Their own main eventers who have been established as wrestlers who could wrestle in the big matches at WM - Cena, Punk, Sheamus, Orton, Ryback, Big Show (unfortunately )

Then you have that next tier of guys, who, despite not being on the level of main eventers, either will be in the near future or are upper-midcarders - Team Hell No, Rhodes Scholars, Cesaro, Wade Barrett, Del Rio, Miz, The Shield, Ziggler, CarSterio.

All this adds up to what should be a Wrestlemania packed with talent. They have many options they can go in and I for one am truly excited for the next 3-4 months of WWE programming.

Problem is people compare it to the old days, which doesn't work with the modern era of wrestling, really. It's just different and as you've listed, there are many positive things in WWE right now. People need to be more positive. Also, not everything is going to be perfect. I've come to a conclusion that you shouldn't burn yourself out with trying to have high expectations with every angle that's going on. Watch bits of your favorites and chances are you'll enjoy what you're seeing.

Also, I'd list the amount of fresh faces debuting in 2012 to be a great thing. I stopped watching in 2011 and now got back to it in late 2012, and I see Sandow, Cesaro, PTP, The Shield, etc. Very refreshing from the time Nash/Triple H were going at it.

better than the best.

The Punk-Heyman alliance has made the 3 show show bearable to me
