Why do we continue to watch?

Yes, I know there have been similar threads, but this isn't a gripefest type of thread. In this, I hope we understand why we continue to watch wrestling as a whole when the product has obviously displeased us constantly.

I believe the reason we do is the sheer hope that THIS time(anytime a show is about to start) they'll turn it around. We're fans, let's face it, and we love the sport/entertainment. We remember moments when wrestling made us feel good, and long to have those moments come again.

WWE has dropped the ball many times, usually when it tries to increase it's viewer base. It constantly alienates those of us who think of ourselves as "true fans". WWE probably thinks we'll watch regardless of what they do...and sadly, they're right.

The problem probably stems from Vince McMahon himself. When WCW was utterly defeated, everyone gave it to the genius of Vince...did anyone wonder if it wasn't his genius, but WCW's bad luck and WWE's sheer good luck? Vince has done nothing but take ideas from other promoters and then stole them, changed them a bit, and package them as his new creation.

Fast forward to today. Where can Vince steal these from? nowhere. I like TNA, but it's hardly the birthplace of new, fresh ideas. In fact, it's like a last ditch place for wrestlers before they go back down the independent ladder. Vince has nowhere to steal from and it's showing. And when he's had to get creative on his own, he simply can't.

**Stone Cold and the Rock made themselves despite the bad ideas Vince originally gave them before you fans of them point them out as evidence of Vince's genius

Ways the product can improve:
  • Get rid of the old guard promoters
  • Get rid of influence of old guard wrestlers
  • Shop around the internet for innovative storytellers from fan base
  • Listen more closely to the fan base
  • Stop any squash matches as they hurt the whole product
  • Tone down the amount of comedy
  • Pay more attention to kayfabe in or out of the ring
  • Seek out further for future talents
  • Listen to what fans say about independent wrestlers and who they like
  • Learn not to beat an idea into the ground to the point it goes from interesting to flat out boring

Please. If they listened to the fanbase, everyone would be heels and indy wrestlers would be champions of everything. I do agree about getting more talent though.

This. We are fans for a reason I don't mind if people share there opinions but they shouldn't act like they are right and that they know everything.

Re: Why do we continue to watch?

I watch because I like the matches and the wrestlers. Stuff like the Bryan/Kane promos and such just adds stuff for me. Guys like Punk/Cesaro/etc that cut the good promos, are just a bonus.

I'd like to see them put a little more emphasis into midcard storylines but they're getting a little better. The tag division is at least somewhat taking off.

Re: Why do we continue to watch?

I watch because a great match is one of my fav things. I greatly enjoy wrestlers like Punk,Cesaro,DB,Ziggler and The Shield. I sometimes find myself asking why I continue to tune in but with live TV if you dont then your gonna miss out. Plus I actually go to shows when they come to Boston so im not someone on here who will bash the product and talk about ratings but wouldnt attend a show.

It entertains me. I mean not EVERYTHING entertains me, but enough does to keep me watching.

Re: Why do we continue to watch?

I watch for certain wrestlers and certain matches and when they are not on screen I don't watch. If I find a Raw to be "horrible" then I change the channel and move along. But, I'll be glued to the TV until the Raw after Wrestlemania.

Re: Why do we continue to watch?

Mainly: My top favs who still appear occasionally (Taker, Rock, HHH, Nash, HBK, Lesnar)

Secondly: Others I really like (Orton, Ryback, Shield, Barrett, Sheamus, Rio)

Thirdly: The possibility of other old favs returning or appearing again.
