A hope for better storylines and feuds. Guy A has beef with Guy B because he doesn't like him. That's not very interesting. The Razor/Goldust storyline, while not finished, had Goldust using his bizarre personality to get into Razor's head (sending him flowers, pictures, etc) and won the IC title at RR '96 (with Marlena's help).
That example at least makes you wonder what will happen next.
