RAW 2006 a very underrated year

Let me start off by saying 2006 was the year that I got back into wrestling. Now being 11 years at the time, I ate everything up and enjoyed the hell out of it. Now, looking back, 2006 did bring us its fair share of crap but honestly what year hasn't? From the madness that was Vince McMahon vs Shawn Michaels and God to the never to be seen since Punjabi match, 2006 came with its crap.

But I find a lot of people hate the year 2006. So much, that in fact it 'won' the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Award for Worst Weekly Television Show. Why is that? Why is it that RAW in 2006 was the worst show of the year?

The one thing that stands out from the year, to me, is the feud between Edge and Cena. It is without a doubt a top 10 feud in company history. From Edge cashing in MITB, to Cena throwing him into a body of water, to Edge slapping the taste out of John Cena Sr's mouth- the feud has its moments. Not to mention its matches. Cena vs Edge at Unforgiven 2006 is a classic, imo.

Not to mention other variables such as ECW One Night Stand, RVD being involved in the main event, DX Reunion, Jeff Hardy's return, Edge/Foley and it was the year that both Trish and Lita retired within the space of one month. It was also an emotional year.

All in all, I'd say 2006 was one hell of a year that is often under appreciated.

I was watching WWE in 06 a little on and off but remember all of this. Good year really. Smackdown was awesome too that year

Re: RAW 2006 a very underrated year

It was the last year they truly utilized the TV-14 rating.

Like you said, it was full of crap, but it was enjoyable overall.

Re: RAW 2006 a very underrated year

I thought it sucked at the time. It's just that almost every year since has sucked more, so it looks better in hindsight. 2005 was the last year I thought was actually good......once Hassan left, Jericho left, they depushed Benjamin, HHH went face and got boring, and Angle left? It's just been a lot less enjoyable since......to me.

WWW got a lot worse when Kurt Angle left and hasn't gotten better since.

Didn't KC do a WWE History timeline on that year with Finlay?..I may check it out if that year was REALLY that good..I took a break from wrestling after WM20 so I only remember bits & pieces of WWE between WM21 & WM24..Video section has helped me to some degree though

Re: RAW 2006 a very underrated year

I too think the WWE in 2006 was a very underrated year in the WWE. It was probably the year that that got my interest back into wrestling. Cena vs Edge's feud was very entertaining and Cena's best feud yet. I thought the D-X reunion was good but I'm sure others hated it which is understandable. The mid-card division was really strong here with a returning Jeff Hardy, Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, Johnny Nitro, Chris Masters, and Umaga around. Smackdown was even great right around this time with a very solid roster.

A minor problem I had with this year was the not that many stars being elevated to the main event scene but I didn't think 2006 overall was all that bad.

Re: RAW 2006 a very underrated year

I really enjoyed 2006 WWE. At that time I had only been watching since October of 05 and Raw 2006 really got me back into the product. I thought that the Cena vs Edge feud was really good and along with DX, the most enjoyable part of 2006 WWE overall. Also, I felt that majority of the ppvs were pretty good. Never got the hatred for Raw 2006. The following years were much worse.
