Well, to be fair, they tried to have him not defend the title this PPV and look what happened. They saw thousands of pieces of feedback saying they weren't ordering the PPV because of the lack of interest in the main event (me being one of them) and it was so strong they had no choice but to undo that the next week.

I didn't order it either way. But yeah, I get your point. Still doesn't mean that I give a crap. If there's on thing that has plagued Punk his entire reign, probably even more than playing second fiddle to Cena, it's the fact that bar 2 occasions (the singles matches vs. Cena @ NOC and vs. Ryback @ HIAC) he was NEVER even in any remote danger of losing the title. Everybody and their grandmother knew he would beat Jericho, beat Bryan, beat whoever. He hasn't ever been in any real danger of losing it so it sort of means nothing when he keeps it and that's on top of all the other problems with this reign too. That's what I'm getting at. By announcing the Rock match, yes, they are hyping that one match in particular but at the same time they're devaluing all the other matches Punk has had in between because we all know and have known that he isn't losing it until the Rumble when he faces Rock.

Re: Where does CM Punk go now?

They are, but, really, does it matter? Most of the B PPV's he's defended on were just gonna do the number that show was gonna do regardless of what they did, because it never really changes that much and the big PPV's have something else selling it (bar I guess this one, but even this one has Cena in it). In the end, devaluing his "tune up" defenses before Rock doesn't really impact the numbers that much, and I think you get more out of it by announcing Rock vs Punk 6 months in advance because if you build a big match, the more you build, the better it does, and with Rock you REALLY need a long build because he's never there. That's one reason why Survivor Series last year didn't do that great, because they didn't spend a long time building up Rock's return. This Rumble is probably going to be the highest bought Rumble since the Attitude Era purely based on the 6 month prior announcement.

BTW, you gotta tell me which entrance on WWE '13 you got the Triple H shovel gif from. That's just hilarious.

Re: Where does CM Punk go now?

hopefully they don't do Cena/Punk, Ryback/Punk, or Ryback/Cena/Punk again. There is no need to see Ryback & Cena keep losing to Punk. Its getting beyond stupid at this point and also redundant. I rather see Ryback & Cena vs Punk, Ambrose, Rollins, & Reigns than one of the three mentioned matches at TLC. Heck I rather see a match of Punk against a broken down Foley than see one of those 3 matches again.

Re: Where does CM Punk go now?

He'll just go into TLC defend his title against Foley and beat him. Then go into Royal Rumble to face BIG DAWG.

Re: Where does CM Punk go now?

I got it from the funny pictures thread lol. I do believe he's doing the Grand Master Sexy shuffle entrance lol.

I agree with you. The whole thing with Rock is a double edged sword to me with positives and negatives which we've both pointed out here.

I would like punk to decimate some diva's in the ring. that would be innovative.

I don't think we could have said for sure that Punk would have retained every time since WWE can be quite wasteful. The reports were that they thought about putting the title on Ryback at HIAC all the way to the actual match day, which would have been bad for both Punk and Ryback. WWE is known for doing dumb things like that and then just throw the original thing back on the table in time for the long term plan to work out.

To me all logical booking said to have Punk retain but I just don't expect WWE to act logical all the time.

Then again I didn't expect Cena, HHH etc to lose in most of their matches in their long reigns either. It's the ride that has to be the entertainment in my view.

As for the actual question by the TS, I'd say that the best way to spend this time is to build up Punk to work as good as possible after RR if he's to lose the title to Rock. WWE desperately needs it's only really big heel so he needs to keep being a force despite losing.

I never thought Punk would lose the title until he faced Cena @ NOC, then I had some doubts but not many. Same again vs. Ryback @ HIAC and that was purely down to the fact that I wasn't sure how they would book things. That's not even talking about reports etc, that's just my own personal feelings on how things would play out and what I assumed would happen.

Of course the ride has to be the entertainment but I don't think that's something that can be said about Punk's reign tbh. It hasn't been all that special. Bar the great Bryan match at OTL, the rest has been completely forgettable. Combine that with the fact that they've barely treated him like a champion until August and it doesn't exactly make for an entertaining or memorable title reign, at least not to me.

Ugh please god, don't put Foley in the ring again.
