I did read your whole post, but this part I think is the key flaw in the comparison and argument.
Cena USED to be that guy. It's Punk now. if you don't think Punk has been "always rising above the odds and beating foes", look at the last year of PPV matches. It's littered with stipulation matches that were supposedly not in his favor. Yet he won anyway. Here's a list of his match types since winning the title:
3 triple threat matches (all 3 times with guys who were supposedly trying to team up to beat him (Del Rio and Miz, then Team Hell No). Got handcuffed to the ropes in one match and still won. The next PPV is another triple threat match.
1 Chicago Street Fight match with a legend (Jericho)
2 special guest ref matches, both times with the ref supposedly out to get him (Laurinitis for one, and DB's girlfriend in another), but of course he wins anyway, and even gets booked as basically stealing the other wrestler's girlfriend in the process.
1 Elimination Chamber match, beating 5 other guys and looking like Superman's even stronger father.
1 Hell in a Cell match with the hardest pushed badass on the show right now.
3 regular matches, but two were against "legends" (Jericho and Cena).
If that isn't beating the odds, what is? Punk is pretty much the Goku of WWE now.
