I think he SHOULD drop the title to The Rock at RR and not before, but something tells me they won't let Punk's reign surpass Cena's.

Punk loses to The Rock at Royal Rumble. Worst thing that could happen is Punk going over and The Rock leaving. Would be the biggest disappointment in recent wrestling history imo. Wouldn't be surprised if ratings tanked right down the shitter if that happened.
It's possible Punk loses before then, but VERY unlikely due to how close it is. Imo, it's a no win situation at this point -unless- he loses to The Rock at the Rumble. Punk loses before then: most of the last year of WWE title has been an utter waste of time/matches/booking. Punk goes over: A sizable group of people probably stop watching due to complete lack of change and sheer disappointment.
Only way this can work now is Rock winning. Punk can't even win uncleanly or draw to set up another match, because they JUST did that with Ryback and Cena, and will probably do it again for the upcoming Punk/Ryback Raw title match. So it'd just be more of the same shit to drag it the fuck out some more. And let's be honest, if Rock faces any guy twice, it should be Cena, not Punk. Punk 2x and Cena once is a waste of a valuble asset.

Well, if he has to lose it, at this point he should lose the Rock.
If he drops the belt at Survivor Series, whomever he drops it to might as well keep until the RR and drop it to the Rock. Punk losing it only to win it back is insulting, because they don't want him to pass Cena's reign.
I think he gets all the way to the Rumble, but gets back into the title picture for Mania. I don't see anything else for him, unless they somehow are able to get Steve Austin in for Mania, which I still don't see happening, at least not this year.
