Beginning to understand why they turned Punk into the complete opposite...
To what he was as a babyface. WWE knew how popular Punk was and he was cheered by loads of people and the chants were massive in some arenas. Was such a shocker when Punk turned heel because I didnt expect it, especially as he was built up as one of the top babyfaces in the company after his face turn in 2011.
May sound stupid to think 'How do you not understand why Punk is like this' but thats due to the fact I did not understand why would you turn him the complete opposite to what he was a few months prior. And for people else who was in the situation I was like, as I watch Punk heel turn progress I understand exactly why they need to make sure Punk gets as much heat as possible. Have you noticed Punk berates the crowd constantly, runs away cowardly, belittles home-crowds, refuses matches, and putting him with Paul Heyman. WWE are trying so hard to make sure Punk gets as much heat as possible because of his mass popularity that he had prior to it. Imagine a Punk who didnt run away, didnt belittle the crowd, and althoug is meant to be a heel and he gets all these cheers, hes not really a heel if hes outpopping the babyfaces. So now we have a confirmed Punk role whom will hopefully reign as a top heel in the company. I am liking the fact WWE are working hard to ensure Punk gets as much heat as possible because they want people to view him as 'THE BAD GUY' of the company. And to be honest it wouldnt be hard to turn Punk into a popular babyface in the future, all you would have to do is have Paul Heyman betray him with Lesnar - and Punk can go on apologisng how Paul Heyman posioned him and would seek redemption from the fans and woul take out Heyman/Lesnar or something like that. So with all the complaining I have done in the past, good job WWE on CM Punk(Y) |

well they had to have him do cheap heat at first, because everything he was saying was true. Isn't that the point of a heel? they are wrong, and continue to believe their own drivel? Punk has become a coward and all that jazz, but at first it was like "oh... ok?" when someone said he was a coward or hadn't earned respect.
Daniel Bryan called this during their feud going into Over the Limit, he said CM Punk is a bad guy, and he was just fooling everyone. That statement alone makes Bryan a face. HAHA. Just kidding. Punk, in Montreal, started out with the crowd chanting "CM PUNK" and ended his promo with Bret Hart with them chanting "ASSHOLE" Punk does exceptional mic work, but heel fits his personality better. He can be sarcastic, and make fun of faces tirelessly, and post funny comments on twitter that maybe offend a lot of people. It's all part of him as a person, but makes his character get just a little bit of that heat from fans. I honestly think Punk would be happy being a heel the rest of his career, and he wouldn't have to watch what he says or does from now on. |

I think what a lot of people don't like though is that they don't want the original "bad guy" heel who does what you said...

I think Del rio is a great example. At least when he first debuted. He was real hot on WF and in WWE, he was new and seemed different than your standard heel (again like you said). Then he feel victim to that path and now is hated upon by many. It seems like Punk is grabbing on to the last little bit of his uniqueness he can, while still doing all the A, B, Cs of being a standard top heel. |
Re: Beginning to understand why they turned Punk into the complete opposite...
He never turned heel, the WWE Universe just turned their back on him! It's ridiculous, he was only trying to make a statement against The Rock, who disrespected him, and Jerry Lawler makes the fans believe that he turned on THEM rather than just The Rock.
I blame Lawler for all of this with his stupid comment. |
Re: Beginning to understand why they turned Punk into the complete opposite...
I think Punk is a better heel than a face. Its part of his chemical make up. He just looks like an arrogant douchebag.

Re: Beginning to understand why they turned Punk into the complete opposite...
That's probably because he is one in real life. I'm a fan of his and I can even tell.
That's just one reason he'll never be above Cena in WWE. Even if Cena was one as well, Cena knows how to hide it better from the fans. |
Re: Beginning to understand why they turned Punk into the complete opposite...
They never should have made him a face in the first place. The shoot/leaving with the belt angle had the potential to create one of the greatest wrestling villains ever.

If Punk didn't do all the typical tropes of a WWE cowardly heel, he would just get cheered even more than he previously was. This is the same guy that got a split reaction against The Undertaker of all people, if you had a heel Punk that wouldn't back down to any challenge and kept speaking his truthful drivel, nobody would boo him.
