Re: Ryback says he's better than Goldberg ever was
I'm a Ryback fan but no, he's not a better worker than Goldberg and sure as hell not a better athlete than Goldberg. Goldberg was one of the best pure athletes in wrestling history. From time to time he showed amazing agility in his matches like doing a backflip or whatever. + Goldberg had some classic wrestling matches when he was there with a better worker for 15 minutes. Ryback is a great powerhouse but Goldberg is arguably the best of all time in his type. In any other aspect, Goldberg takes it easily. But this is a WWE interview, there's even a chance that Ryback never said it and it's just WWE's usual obsession with WCW. And I hope Ryback is not going to continue with the "passion" BS talk.

Nah, I don't believe Vince will screw it this time. he know Ryback becomes a key player in his company, and he must be much worse than a dumb in order to kill his monstrous momentum. with Ryback becoming now the most over superstar in the roster and the most talked one, vince know he is the next #1, so I don't see WWE fuck it up.
at least this time

So WCW used to gain 4s-5s rating, I understand. that's pretty high!
but when did Austin and Vince clashed at first time? I understand it was on Raw, but in 99' or 98'? was WCW in 98' still THE top?

I don't give a damn about either Ryback or Goldberg. Any time Goldberg was on WCW, I was sort of wishing I could watch a lucha match or one of the technical wrestlers doing something interesting.
And I've been enjoying CM Punk FAR, FAR more than I ever enjoyed Stone Cold.
Re: Ryback says he's better than Goldberg ever was
I agree with Ryback, as an actual wrestler I think that he'll be far better than Goldberg ever was. Difference is that Goldberg was an original who had a legendary cast around him where as Ryback has a bunch of mid-carders.

I love Punk to death but I have a very hard time believing you saw anything Austin did before 2001. His feud with Vince McMahon is better than 200 CM Punk's.

Re: Ryback says he's better than Goldberg ever was
Ryback made a pretty down to earth assessment considering what one would expect him to say in their interviews. He admitted not beeing on Goldbergs level of charisma, presence and intensity but thinks he's better in the ring and more athletic. As far as squash matches go, Goldberg is the best in them. He may not do great moves but I remember as a kid how excited I was just watching him, he had the "beast" psychology down to a tee. Ryback can get pretty boring in them, he may need a few more moves and a more fluid execution to go up another level in my opinion, but in the end, what matters is how a wrestler performs in long PPV matches. Considering his character he has to be the one dishing most of the offense in which takes up a good amount of stamina, which may make it hard for him to maintain his intensity throughout the match. This was one of the biggest strength points of Lesnar.
But yeah, nothing wrong about that interview, Ryback couldn't just say "I'm just a 2nd rate copy who can't even compare to Goldberg", but if he said "I'm better than Goldberg at everything" he wouldn't look very believeable either, so I thought he found a nice middleground in that interview.

97-99 were some of my last prime viewing years. I was just not an Austin fan.
Not that it matters to posterity or anything, I just wanted to point out that no acclaim is ever universal. Neither is any notoriety - I heard an interview, and I forgot who said it, but the quote went something like, "Every guy out there is somebody's favorite wrestler."

I wouldn't put it past him to ruin it. Watch Vince just throw Ryback to the back burner if Cena is ready.
