Yeah definately, one minor botch in a match no one particuarly cared about is going to trainwreck his career. I remember they once had this guy called Hulk Hogan, he once fell over doing a big boot and then they stopped his push and fired him.

Brock certainly became a bigger name in the UFC, but he was absolutely a star before entering the world of MMA. That's why he generated so much buzz. That's half of the reason he became such a big draw for the UFC. Brock was a star in the WWE when the roster was filled with guys like The Rock, Stone Cold, The Undertaker and Triple H.
