The argument over ratings is redundant

Although WWE won't be happy with the decline, the fact is ratings aren't the big deal anymore, without competiton from another wrestling show. The biggest shows (non-sport) on cable at the moment are: Major Crimes, WWE Raw, Sons of Anarchy, Spongebob, Turtles, Housewives of New Jersey and O'Reilly. Even a weaked WWE Raw sits at the top or second to the top.

Only one show there is from the USA Network - they have nothing that brings even 3 million viewers. Hence, Raw @ a 2.5 is by far their most valuable asset. Especially as it is not continuous. Think the PG rating will be the death of them? If anything this clean version of WWE is more marketable to cable advertisers and sponsors.

The WCW comparisons are pointless too. Ratings wasn't the problem there - it was the 80 million dollar loss coupled with Time Warner executives opposed to 'wrasslin on the network. As WWE is a public company, has moved their image away from wrestling and have an iron clad history with USA, they do not have this problem.

Lastly, TV rights are now the WWE's biggest money spinner. This year they are on course to have a revenue of at least 150 million dollars from their many hours of television product - and it's been growing every year. That goes directly into the WWE coffers, unlike with PPVs where they lose half to the providers.

Agreed on this. Watch the show and shut the fuck up about ratings.

Ratings are useful to guess what changes will be made to the program if any, but yeah I agree there's no use in getting worked up over them. WWE will do what they like, regardless of what ratings they draw.

Every one of those points gets made and remade and built up and shot down on a weekly basis in the ratings thread, hence the reason the mods made a catch-all thread for ratings.
Yknow who ratingz do matter to? Folks who make threads about ratings.

Re: The argument over ratings is redundant

USA is not going to cancel them or anything like that. Plus WWE is essentially going to turn a profit (even if it's a small one) every single year. You'd really have to be stupid and void of any intelligence at all to mess up the profit turning. WWE is at a point in it's life as a company where it can turn a profit on autopilot.

So in reality, it's not really a big deal.

To be fair, the ratings are more interesting than the show itself.

Re: The argument over ratings is redundant

without competition ratings are still important, but that doesn't apply here. WWE is now competing in kid's television agaisnt Yugioh or Batman. Why would USA pay them to air RAW on monday night for low viewership when they could air another 3 hours worth of entertainment for better ratings...equaling more money?
