“I have a whole lot of respect for John Cena and all what he has done for the business,” he said. “But I think CM Punk is better and he is the future of the WWE,” he added

Just like Paul Bearer, it seems Cody Rhodes looks past non-qualitative stats like ratings when he rates other wrestlers. What are your thoughts on Cody's opinion? I bet I know ...

Punk and Cena are about the same age. been in the business for about as long. Cena probably has a FEW more bumps on his body b/c he's been more full time than Punk for a couple more years although you can argue that Punk worked a style harder on his body from the beginning, but there's no way Punk is the FUTURE. he might have a year or two more than Cena in the tank, but he's too old to be the future. I assume Punk might get more years than most guys b/c he hasn't used drugs and alcohol, but still he's in his mid 30's now. i don't see him being a top guy in 5+ years. at least not a fully active top guy. he also seems like a Jericho type guy. he was ready to leave just over a year ago. he probably has other interests and lots of money. I don't see wrestling as his only interest/talent like a Hogan/Flair.

idk if Punk could be as big of a star as Cena because of the look and certain superstar aspects Cena has, but at the same time I think if WWE pushed Punk as hard as they've pushed Cena he could probably do better among a certain demo. I think Cena still reaches the masses more than Punk. I also think that if WWE pushed Punk as hard as they pushed Cena it would hurt some of his appeal anyway.

Cena is a mainstream icon, Punk is a cult icon.

Cena's not an icon at all, he's just a top star. He's a clown who has less edge than Barney the dinosaur. Hogan, Austin and Rock are icons, people laugh at Cena, they make fun of him, they boo him for ruining their product. Everybody over the age of 12 fucking hates the prick. He's to wrestling what Justin Bieber is to music.

Cena is still better. They're two guys doing the same job. Cena does his job better (makes more money, sells more merch, gets higher ratings). Therefore he's better. And yes, it does matter. It's what matters most, because it applies the opinion of every wrestling fan rather than just the people on the forum saying "that guy sucks and this guy's great".

You may like watching Punk more (or the most), but that doesn't make him "the best". It makes him your favorite.

Cena's far from my favorite wrestler, but he's still the best one. You guys need to start differentiating between the two things.

Not that Punk needs approval from Cody Rhodes, but he's absolutely correct. It's SO obvious that Punk is the best performer in wrestling I don't know why people even bother debating it, you just can't. I'm not sure if that's the answer that Vince McMahon wants to hear from him, though.....

Cody Rhodes is an idiot, he needs to stop putting his foot in his mouth in interviews, it's detrimental to his career.

He's right, obviously, but I don't think Vinny Mac and John-Boy himself are gonna take too kindly to this from a guy under contract. I think he's the first person under active contract to flat out state the obvious, that Punk is better than Cena in public.

Punk is probably the best wrestler in the business, Cena's not as bad as people think, but John Cena is by far the biggest star out of the two. It's safe to say that Cena is the bigger draw. I give Punk all the credit in the world for his work, he really is outstanding, however John Cena is still number one.

I honestly doubt Vince cares too much what Rhodes says to some Egyptian affiliate in trying to hype a series of house shows in Cairo. At this point, it's really in WWE's best interest to have wrestlers talk up guys who aren't Cena, just to give the impression, if nothing else, that this product actually has more flavors of ice cream than vanilla to choose from.

Sounds like a good, understandable comment.

Well it's the truth and it's becoming increasingly more difficult for people to argue. The guy is tops face or heel and can make anything they give him work.

The whole Cena promo on him changing characters and personas so much, pre Night of Champions was incredibly annoying to me, because the point they scripted Cena to make was so off the mark.

Because in reality, Punk changing gimmicks was not a sign of weakness but rather his talent. He was great as the straight edge face in the beginning, great as the heel leader of straight edge society, great as the best in the world face, and is now great as the best in the world Paul Heyman guy, heel. That's not a sign of weakness on his part when he can make everything and anything they give him work.

Not all guys can be good faces and good heels. Some are 1 or the other. He can do both. He is awesome, and deserving of the admiration from his peers.

Punk is the present, his time is now. I think CM Punk and Daniel Bryan are some of the best talents for this new decade and time will tell if they will be able to influence and impact the new decade as well, if they haven't so already. Both are my current favorites by the way.
That's why the new decade is so awesome......... and ratings too.

Punk is better than cena. That's my opinion. Cena was given better angles for a year and punk still entertains me more.

LOL Cena has been given better angles?:lmao
Punk has been given the best angles for almost a year or more(his feuds with Bryan, Jericho, working with Heyman, not not mention his shoot and his constantly breaking kayfabe in his in his promos, because he can't be interesting without breaking kayfabe. And Cena has been given shit angles and feuds after the feud with Lesnar, you call his feud with big Johnny and big show great angles? LOL, even his feud with the ass kisser punk is mostly about punk and his character development.

Cena.............

- carried his ass in the greatest match of his life at last year's MITB

- carried his undrawing ass in the most highest viewership gains he has ever had in his life

- destroyed the living daylights out of his credibility on the mic a few weeks ago

Best on the Biz indeed
