"Backstage" News on Punk's Status, Being Compared to Bret Hart
Quote:
With John Cena and Randy Orton being gone from last weekend’s WWE live events, CM Punk’s importance to the company was a hot topic backstage. The feeling right now is that only two guys really draw big for the company – John Cena and CM Punk.
There’s also a feeling that they need to get Punk to where he doesn’t end up beat up and worn out like Cena and so many other top talents are. People this weekend were saying that Punk was looking sick or worn down.
Punk is being compared to Bret Hart’s early days with WWE in the sense that he’s the company workhorse but doesn’t get the nod of approval that a John Cena or Hulk Hogan would get.

Quite obvious that Cena and Punk are practically the only draws on the current fulltime roster, and that's really going to fuck them over soon, if it hasn't already.

It's interesting that they don't see Orton as a draw anymore. Remember the days when Orton as on fire! It's cool that Punk is now seen as a draw and will probably be seen as more valuable what with Cena's many injuries and recent surgery. Hopefully Punk gets another few WWE Championship reigns because he is the company workhorse and i think he really deserves it.
I wouldn't want Punk compared to Bret Hart though, just no.

The comparison sort of makes sense, tbh.
And it's comparing their reigns/status to each other, not actually Punk to Bret. But I'm sure we'll get 100 comments and a mark war on it anyway. Prepare to be warned/banned/deleted.

Punk is more talented than Bret Hart. Better on mic and much more charismatic.

Orton is a draw in terms of selling seats but he was never the guy to sell merchandise. Punk and Cena do both.

Talent/charisma draws. Not size.

Re: "Backstage" News on Punk's Status, Being Compared to Bret Hart
It's good to get "confirmation" on that the company is behind Punk. It's pretty obvious since they've put him on such a long reign but it's always better to get an inkling about their current view of him.
The comparison of his status to Bret Hart's seems very apt, but of course some will make an exercise in ignorance and think that it means WWE thinks they are the same kind of performers.

Beat me to it! Anyways, I'm not surprised by this at all and WWE should do everything they can to preserve Punk's credibility instead of doing potentially horrendous things like feeding him to Ryback, Cena, and, especially, Sheamus.
