Re: Anyone notice Cena cuts the same promos all the time?
The Problem I have with them is they tend to sound ever so cringe worthy, like so bad when he goes into his shaking rage of fury mode and says something like
"I am the most animistic violent, brutal man on the planet" while his face turns red and the person that says it is this
It comes of so phoney, hokey and embarrassing because no one watching can take him that seriously, in that vein. I mean if Austin says it its badass and if Heyman is describing Brock in the ring with those words then again it sounds legit and this isn't a dig against Cena but it doesn't work when he tries to come off as this 'tough guy' or heel like comments when he's this 'super nice guy, who always does the ring thing' persona.
Re: Anyone notice Cena cuts the same promos all the time?
I'm starting to tune the promo's out, it's not that hard...I don't find them appealing. I know some people thought his promo against Punk with Bret was great but to me it was the same ol' same. That promo would have been better if it wasn't in typical Cena fashion, he can cut a good promo but that one was just a shiny turd. I'm pretty optimistic that if he ever does turn heel, he'll be good on the mic again.

Savage: "Oh Yeah" some cliches then 1 more "Oh Yeah, Dig It"
Foley: "Cheap Pop" possible turn psycho during promo then "Have A Nice Day".
Every wrestler has a formula it's just all in the delivery.
in all fairness, those are catchphrases, not a promo style.. yeah a catchphrase here and there but the content and delivery is much more bigger than that
I think the op meant that Cena's promos all have the same direction , as in it's predictable

Re: Anyone notice Cena cuts the same promos all the time?
You picked the bad example of his promos being repetitive to show how they are the same. My problem with his promos are when he addresses getting booed and tells somebody about "it". "I've walked down that ramp for 10 years being myself and whether you love me or hate me, I'm never going to change who I am because I believe in the loyal fans that wear their colors proudly and support me through the good and bad times. That's what makes the WWE great, to be able to voice your own opinions on me but I stay true to what I believe in and I'm not trying to win a popularity contest".
Re: Anyone notice Cena cuts the same promos all the time?
Totally disagree with basically everything that has been said in this thread. John Cena is by far the best on the microphone in professional wrestling today. He's better than CM Punk and while it's not the popular opinion, it's the truth. Whenever Cena goes out to the ring he gets a bigger response than anyone else. He's constantly the talking point following a show with a lot of the comments focusing on his promo for that night.
Cena has been throwing in random stuff into his interviews for years and it's unfair to use PG Era segments against him because it's an easy target. He's going to be saying some of the same stuff when he's facing CM Punk ten times. It's only natural that he reuse some stuff. If you look at CM Punk his interviews are far more repeated than Cena's. You constantly hear best in the world with very little character development from that point on. Cena interviews change throughout the year and to say they don't is very closed minded or just ignorant.

Get the fuck out with this shit. How can something subjective be stated as 'fact'? Different people have different tastes.

Cena IS better than Punk on the mic but his promos are also very repetitive in content.
