Creative Pussied Out On ADR: He Should Have Been A Drug Lord
Hey, you want to know why the ADR character isn't working?
It is a very simple 3 parter:
1. There is no coherent reason for his inordinate wealth
2. He never uses his wealth. Ever see him buy a beatdown? The Kevin Nash thing would have been perfect. To rub it in Punk's face, show ADR giving Nash two stacks of cash and telling him "You know what do." See him buy a ref lately? Use his money to mock a character with public advertising? Purchase bodyguards and goons? Flaunt it with say, a zoo and show off a tiger or something? Scarface ANYBODY!?
3. His character does nothing truly repellant
Well, you make him a drug dealer and all those problems go away. 1, you explain the money. 2, you have 1001 storyline possibilities for him to spend the money on. 3, it would be spectacular for him to be a Mexican drug kingpin just smashing crowds in the face with his wealth, and mocking them for being the drug-addled rubes who line his pockets.
See, Mohammed Hassan, that was bold. That was brash, arrogant and offensive. But you know something?
IT. FUCKING. WORKED.
ADR as a drug kingpin could be a monumental heat magnet. But nah, they pussied out. They've got no competition so safety and complacency kicked in. Why make 100 million with a risk when you can make 20 million without sticking your neck out? See, it would be a hot, topical way to make a megaheel, but how would Mattel respond to that? What would the shareholders think? Would it hurt Linda McMahon's asinine political aspirations?
Shareholders and deal-making has creatively hamstrung and castrated the company.

Bring back Jeff Hardy and have tell the world how's he cleaned up. ADR and Jeff then start a feud, leading to a match where if Jeff loses he has to a few lines of coke in the middle of the ring.
Re: Creative Pussied Out On ADR: He Should Have Been A Drug Lord
Hmm, see the company did this little ADR/Punk feud right? Well, kayfabe wise do you think maybe a guy who preaches the Straight Edge lifestyle, calls himself a prophet and the Savior of Straight Edge, has family problems with drug abuse...
You think maybe that would have been a good reason for him to feud with ADR?
"Hey, I bought Nash off with money I made peddling dope to your drunkie whore sister. How about them fuckin' apples, pedejo?"
Instead they kinda just fought one another but there was no heat to it. Punk seemed accepting of it actually.
"Hey, how can I bash you for cashing in? I did it twice myself!"
Oh yeah, baby. What a way to get heat and interest on a match. Punk says "Oh, I've got no problem with you" and then proceeds to beat ADR clean a couple dozen times.
Re: Creative Pussied Out On ADR: He Should Have Been A Drug Lord
If this were 10 years ago, that would've been cool. But apparently it's OK to just give someone a generic, rich-guy persona and tell him to "run with it".
Re: Creative Pussied Out On ADR: He Should Have Been A Drug Lord
I can never understand how the WWE could completely miss the point of Alberto Del Rio's character and how to make him hated. They honestly thought people would hate him simply because he was rich and drove expensive cars. He doesn't need to be a drug dealer. Just have him use his money to cheat. Buy off officials and have bodyguards who beat down people he dislikes.
Re: Creative Pussied Out On ADR: He Should Have Been A Drug Lord
P.G. doesn't mean shit. It is an entirely self imposed restriction, the FCC has NO JURISDICTION over cable. Beyond USA objection they can do whatever they want. See, Cena told Ace to "puck himself" but if he wanted to, and USA OKd it, and the advertisers wouldn't pussy out, and WWE wouldn't freak out about shareholder response (talk about a dumb dick decision, going publicly traded) they could have had Cena call Johnny Ace a "cunt dipshit."
Instead, they say crap and poopy and toolbox and bleep out the word "douchebag."
Once again, did this company's balls drop off or something?
Also, the ADR angle can be done PG. Honestly it could. PG doesn't mean Teletubbies. A lot of more mature stuff you enjoy, that has murder and war and rape and drug dealing and boozing like say, Star Wars, is PG. Indiana Jones movies were PG and they had every over-the-top pulp gore thing you wanted.
Some things to keep in mind. FCC can't do SHIT to anybody on cable. Nothing. All of these restrictions are USA and self imposed
Also, PG can still be really crazy.
