Default Raw Needs an Underlying Storyline

The state of Raw has, quite obviously, plummeted in recent years, and it seems as though everything creative has tried has failed. Be it giving a way a million dollars or putting the title on CM Punk, the Raw ratings have dropped and the overall state of the WWE has seemed to also drop. Paul Heyman outlined some of his thoughts on what would help the WWE, so I'm going to do the same.

Back in the Attitude Era (and before that) there were almost always underlying storylines that carried out throughout the duration of an episode of Raw. Be it Vince vs. Austin, WWF vs. WCW, DX, nWo, Evolution etc. there always seemed to be one main storyline that affected everything and everyone. It has been quite a while since we have had something like this, and I think it is time to start one up again. Vince seemed to be trying to do this with the "Vince's Death" storyline, and after that failed tried again with the "illegitimate child" storyline, but that, too, failed. I think now more than ever a stable needs to be formed. Well, in fact two stables need to be formed. With 2 front men leading the feud. Earlier in the year I was thinking the two perfect guys to lead this type of feud would be Cena and Batista, but since Orton's on screen return I can't help but feel he should be front and center on Raw.

Orton's character and Batista's character clash so perfectly. They both seem like father figures on Raw, and are both extremely independent. This is why I picked the two of them to be at the front of these feuds. One possible way to start this up is that Batista claims he is getting sick of Orton running around treating everyone as if they were below him. Orton's condescension and Batista "take no shit from nobody" attitude would combine perfectly to ignite a fiery feud between the two. Now with the clause on Orton that he cannot hit anybody and nobody could hit him, Orton could send team Priceless (with MANU) after Batista. Batista retaliates by sending, perhaps, Cryme Tyme after him. This would lay the groundwork to setting up two stables of:
Orton's "Team"
Team Priceless w/ Manu
Cena (heel turn after returning)

Batista's "Team"
Cryme Tyme
CM Punk
Rey Mysterio

The main purpose of this feud would be something that would constantly draw fans in to watch week after week to see the recent developments in this storyline. Obviously it would also help by getting CT and Priceless more over and help build them into main event talents. The other advantage in my idea is the fact that two stables are formed, something many of us have been waiting reluctantly for, for a while now.

I think WWE is possibly setting up the next dominate stable with Orton and Batista with Team Priceless or Orton/Priceless vs. Batista and Cena.

Smackdown has had an underlying storyline for almost a year with the Edge/Vickie relationship. But another era like McMahon-Helmsley or Austin vs. McMahon is needed to spice things up a bit and it allows for writing/booking to be more creative.

It's a good idea. We haven't had stable wars in a while; usher them in again.

Simple solution: Brand wars. Raw vs Smackdown. Invasions, chaos, egos, fun.

That could be a good story leading up to ending the brand split after WM25. But I was thinking the same thing as the OP for awhile now. RAW needs continuity and something that trandscends one 2 hour time slot.

Don't worry. When TNA falls out, we'll get to see another cross-company battle. I promise!

even something like ecw invading raw could be good. raw vs smackdown fueds are always awesome as well and they need lots of stables just 2 is kinda boring.

back in attitude era there was this

the corperation
DX
The ministry
stone cold
mankind

having stables and then a few single guys who just hate all the stables would be awesome.

I like the idea of Raw being invaded by Smackdown and ECW, although that is not something that would be exclusive to Raw. I'm talking about something just on Raw to help them out. Once you start suggesting Smackdown/ECW invading Raw you start talking about the brand split and I don't want to get into that.

I like the idea but if Cena is going to be in any stable he is going to be the leader. Just like HHH, you will never see him not lead a stable.
