10 Years Ago Today The Best Heel vs. Heel Match In Raw History Took Place.

Edge vs. Randy Orton April 30 2007 on Raw

This Edge vs. Orton Raw match was Dave Meltzer's highest rated tv match in 2007 alongside the 55 minuets Cena-HBK match in UK.
He rated both 4.25 stars.

Edge vs. Randy Orton kicked off Raw and they stole the show. It was the night after Backlash 2007 which had another Classic :
Cena vs HBK vs Orton vs Edge Fatal 4 Way for the WWE Title.

For me, It's one of the best Heel vs Heel matches ever & One of the best matches in Raw history.
Edge & Randy had 2 great matches in 2004 for the IC title at Vengeance and a rematch on Raw.
But this match had 2 established main eventers and former world champions.
It should have been on a PPV, but it will be remembered as one of the best Raw matches of all time.

It was a high quality wrestling match from start to finish.
These 2 knew each other inside out due to their tag-team exploits so their wrestling styles meshed perfectly.
They had perfectly timed near-falls and finisher attempts and you had the crowd eating out of their hands leading to the hot finish.
Randy took an insane bump from the apron to the annoucers table, he also was busted open really bad.
J.R was gold in this match. The crowd was really red hot for this, everybody was standing in the crowd.

It's very rare to see a heel vs heel match today, especially between 2 top heels.
The psychology in this match of two heels trying to out heel each other throughout the entire match was really entertaining to watch.
It was great to watch back then and even better to watch it now.
This match and the Naito-Omega G-1 match are my favorite heel vs heel matches ever.

You should all watch it, 16 minutes of great in ring action of 2 of the best in WWE ever.

I remember this match well. Edge and Randy Orton always had great chemistry both as opponents and as tag team partners and it shows again in this match. It always baffled me why WWE didn't have a match between the two at WrestleMania that year and instead put them in the money in the bank ladder match.

By the way, even though they were both heel, the crowd began to rally behind Orton.

I'll definitely have to rewatch this.

From what I remember, it was a rather one-sided match with Edge busting Randy open. Funny to think that I believed Orton was gonna turn face after this, only to go on an absolute tear by turning into a sadistic bastard.

Well the way WWE were booking at the time, it did seem like Orton was going to turn face. I remember heading into WrestleMania 23, Edge kept finding a way to duck out of his matches, causing the crowd to start to get behind Orton, as they did in this match on Raw.

It definitely raises the question of how WWE would've booked Edge and Orton on Raw that year, had they not shifted Edge over to Smackdown due to Undertaker's injury. I definitely think that Edge not being there was a factor in WWE pushing Orton as the top heel on Raw.

Excellent match.

Unfortunately there is no one on the roster today anywhere near as talented as Edge, who is one of the all time greats of the industry and Randy isn't as fresh as he was then.

Rated RKO were one of the best teams in WWE history and if HHH didn't get injured the feud with DX would most likely gone down as one of the best ever tag team feuds. 4 of the biggest superstars in the company in tag team action....it's hard to imagine that in today's WWE.

I still remember this match. And Rated RKO. And a Edge vs HHH(?) heel vs. heel match. Wrestling was so much more fun back then. Guys were given opportunities, made the most of it, were entertaining and kept getting pushed. Far less bland personalities getting megapushed.
