looking at current decade Royal Rumble and winners pretty much irrelevant and it seems got worst and worst...
2010: Edge (via eliminating John Cena).
2011: Alberto Del Rio (via eliminating Santino Marella).
2012: Sheamus (via eliminating Chris Jericho).
2013: John Cena (via eliminating Ryback).
2014: Batista (via eliminating Roman Reigns).
2015: Roman Reigns (via eliminating Rusev).
last year fans hate Batista so they cheer at the end for Reigns over Batista and this year Reigns get Batista heat...
2012 RRumble Winner RTWM is one of the worst got dump for opening 18 second Bryan lost...Sheamus vs Bryan expected to have a good match and Bret Hart said somewhere along the line of high expectation Bryan/Sheamus to pull it off.
i say Punk deserve to win Royal Rumble and Main event at WM29 2013...no excuse, i agree with Punk rant and left WWE. Feeding Punk to Rock for Cena at Royal Rumble is not ok...
The Royal Rumble match used to be the #1 match of the year. Now it is just 40 minutes of artificial manipulation where the whole match is carefully planned out to not have the winner take any heat by ever attacking a top babyface.
The overall quality of the match suffers because Vince/creative are scared to have a top babyface getting any heat.
Bryan (The best performer in WWE by miles) was eliminated early just so Reigns didn't have to be in the ring as him at the same time. Which is actually smart because the Daniel Bryan chants would shit all over Reigns, but it made the match worse in the name of protecting Reigns. Not that it matters because in the end even Rusev chants shit all over Reigns.
Kane and Big Show were involved in the last 3. This was not because they are up and coming stars who need a push. It was so they could eliminate 3 of the top guys in the business and protect Reigns from eliminating a fan favorite. Also they were there to make Reigns look like a superman in a 2 on 1 situation.
They sacrificed all suspense, mystery and intrigue by making it obvious Reigns was winning as soon as Kane and Big Slow were eliminating A+ talent with ease whilst Boreman Reigns lay in the corner doing nothing.
Basically the Rumble (At least this year) is no longer a place for midcard guys to shine and show their talent and upper midcarders to put on a good show and break into the main event scene. It is a scripted crapshoot solely designed to push (and protect) one guy.
I don't care that Reigns won, I knew he would when he started getting his supercena push 6 months ago. I care that his superman push is so important to WWE they make Bray, Ziggler, Ambrose, Rusev and Bryan look like jobbers.
The Wyatt part was awesome. I enjoy the returns its cool to see guys like DDP one more time.
After that the Rumble had nothing to it. It was just one lame elimination after another until the final 3. They need more action, more move sequences, more drama and feuds carrying into the rumble and out of it.
How bout showing Reigns and other fan favs hanging on for their lives like it really matters . Not just sitting in a corner. Unless they are worried Reigns would botch and eliminate himself..

Yes to all of this but especially the part in bold. They really should have done something with Swagger and Rusev one last time. Have Swagger eliminate him, Rusev attacks him back and finally have Swagger go over him at WM.
Tag team division and the midcard could have been made relevant with the RR. It was in the past the RR made every division important even the Divas sometimes.
At least Reigns is the first winner in a long time that isn't already a former would champion, the idea is to give someone the chance of a life time, not chance of another rematch.
Kane and Big Show in the final 4 was just sickening. Ziggler, Ambrose, Bryan and Reigns would have been better I know they're all faces but damn the reaction especially if Seth actually won the Triple Threat.
I generally believe people would have accepted that even if one had to turn heel later, whoever eliminated Bryan.
Lol didn't answer the question yes it still is but it is watered down I mean Kofi spots IDC for them no more I just want him in the final four at least. Plus the MVP of the matches never wins. It's always the guy who doesn't put enough effort that wins these things I like the survive guy winning or the guy with dominate performance, like Kane in 2001.
Rumble booking is actually very formulaic, simple and works. Sure everyone will complain that it's predictable, but you sacrifice much more by making it a mess.
The rumble formula that has worked imo is:
1. Most Fan favourites last 25-30 minutes average
2. The most over babyface has to be in the final 4 (it's better if they are there for a long time as opposed to have been sent in at number 30 not to win)
3. Interferences and/or "unfair" eliminations to set up mid-card feuds as opposed to jobber toss outs that don't set up a feud
4. Tag teams and stables have to be set up against popular babyfaces (having a few moments where the babyface is alone before another babyface comes in to loud pops)
5. The winner is one of the top 4 most over babyfaces or heels depending on who's waiting at the mania
6. A few good spots thrown in while the crowd's favourites are still in the match
Pick any winner ... it doesn't matter as long as it's one of the crowd's favourites or has been set up in a way where he replaces the current favourite adequately --- Not needing to have the fucking Rock come in out of nowhere to create a level of fakeness within a fake program that makes people inherently reject everything.
The Rumble won't be relevant again till the WWE realizes that this is all fake and therefore the people's champion has to be the champion for that year even IF it turns out to be The Bunny.
I believe most people would have accepted and even respected Reigns if he had tossed out two babyfaces including Bryan in a not so jobber way and if Bryan had got up and had a stare down and a hand shake.
yep,Rumble isn't that important like in the past....so predicatable. i love 2001 Austin RTWM because everything is relevant...Kurt Drop the title to Rock at NWO so rock can face Austin at WM. WWE should have get rid of February PPV jump straight to Mania.
True, people have hated the royal rumble for years now, what was the last time people cheered the rumble winner? royal rumble is just a big event for wwe to glorify their favorite guy.
It's just 40 minutes of filler, 1 Kofi Kingston spot & maybe 2 at most good special entrants.
Enter someone like Reigns, comes in clears up & then isn't seen for the next 15 minutes, just like every other ladder match where the guy you don't see most of the match wins it (Unfortunately just because we can't see them on screen doesn't mean we don't see it coming from a mile away).
It definitely has lost its luster. I believe the winners from 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014 also lost their respective Wrestlemania matches for the championship. That is approximately a 2/3 fail rate for the Rumble winner in the last seven rumbles (not including this year's winner).Sheamus winning it and curtain jerking at Mania in that match also didn't help.
Ladies and Gentlemen, behold your new Survivor Series.
MITB briefcase>>>>>
Irrelevant? Just look at how people have exploded both this year and last. It's genuinely becoming quite a controversial event and even garnering mainstream attention. Aside from this years pathetic attempt to protect Reigns, the match has always been one of the best every single year and definitely the most fun. (Fuck it, I even enjoyed this one. That reaction was just as enjoyable and juicy as any spot in the match. I enjoyed the hate haha)
If they continue the way they're going the Rumble will always be seen as a big deal and will never slip into obscurity.
if bryan had won the last two years, they would have been incredible, it's not the matches, it's the booking. the match works if either the most over guy wins, or there is serious doubt as to who is going to win. the last two years has failed on both counts.
I think the Royal Rumble should be a trophy or something, but not a chance to fight for the title at WM.
Why? Now everybody knows who's gonna win that, or at best we have two candidates. Being a title by itself will help its unpredictability: anyone can win it. But for that to work they should sell it like a huge deal and the winner should carry the trophy, belt or whatever it is, with him all year long, much like the MitB briefcase.
They're doing there best to bury it like they did with Survivor Series. This isn't coming from a bitter Bryan perspective either. Every year its like, we have our winner thats it. If you've listened to Austins podcasts this week you'll get me. No longer do you have a break out young guy, no longer do feuds get built from the rumble (Angle/HBK for example) no longer do tag teams fall out during the match. Hell, the winner hardly even does anything, Reigns lay down in the corner the whole match and eliminated the 2 giants when they weren't looking. They didn't even make Reigns look good ffs.
2010 - Should have been Shawn Michaels - Then going onto face Taker (World Title)
2011 - Should have been Christian - Goes onto face Edge at Wrestlemania
2012 - Should have been Chris Jericho - Made Sense
2013 - John Cena is fine
2014 - Daniel Bryan
2015 - Daniel Bryan
