All he said was it was an opportunity he might have been given...sure, he didn't say he was, but didn't say he wasn't. It seemed odd to me. Why not just say "People can think I am but I'm not?"
Yeah, that was pretty funny. Bit weird he said "so what" instead of denied it, I wonder if they're keeping their options opening for turning him depending on his next few reactions.
With booking like this NO ONE can say that they deserved it. There's no way he can make it believable either because there's NOTHING there to back it up at all. There's no way to spin it at all because it was so blatantly wrong. Just plain wrong in every conceivable way imaginable.
He's fucked. He doesn't have the ability to spin anything because he has 0 kayfabe accomplishments at all.
He's also not like he was a surprise come from behind "lucky" winner either.
He has nothing to build upon. No PPV achievements. No titles. No major wins. Nothing.
He might as well just accept the fact that his career is doomed like Del Rio and Sheamus.
The scary thing is that when Reigns fails as an outcome of this, both HHH and Vince will be the first in line to bury him.
Chill guys. Roman ain't that bad. Like Cena said. Sometimes you hit sometimes you miss. Same goes for the IWC, remember Zach Ryder? Give him a chance at least.
Everyone knows every winner is picked. But their logevity and the company's success is determined by how believable it is.
There is a reason why things like finger pokes of doom ran WCW into the ground.
WWE basically gave us their version of the finger poke of doom yesterday .. and I'm actually sitting here now thinking that "OMG. THE FINGER POKE OF DOOM MAKES MORE SENSE!"
Because it would be insulting to our intelligence. He's hand picked, why deny it when the whole world knows it now? Even non wrestling fans see the news tabloids. Just embrace it and keep it moving. Roman handled himself very well tonight. I'd like to see more of this on the actual show.
But his overness is no where near what they envisioned for him.
The thing is that they did not need to push Reigns to the top when they had 3 other major babyfaces that were already more over.
Just one more year and it would've been heck of a lot more acceptable.
Hell, even if it hadn't been Bryan winning last night, I think people would've accepted any of Ziggler, Ambrose and even Ryback as a mania main eventer.
Reigns has nothing to back himself up with. Absolutely jack all.
Even the Warrior who was pushed to the top in a year was actually outdrawing and outselling Hogan at the time and had had an extended run with the IC championship with a very memorable run --- despite being terrible in the ring.
But then, when the Warrior flopped, Vince was the FIRST guy in line to bury him.
My point being that the right thing to say would be "I earned this by winning the match." Kayfabe wise. Not "Yeah. this was handed to me. It wasn't necessarily earned."
It seems odd for him to basically validate his hate.
2 years after Rocky debuted he became the Corporate Champion. It was great. A little over 2 years after Roman debuted he wins the Royal Rumble. It was awful.
No shit the guy was handpicked despite lacking the credentials others have earned. It's such a fail-fail question to ask. It certainly did no favors for him.
His answer was basically yeah, I was handpicked despite others having more talent and experience then me, but I'll live. Which is fine..FOR HIM.
As a fan, why would I be excited about that?? Thats a shoot kind of question, not a kayfabe interview.
Kayfabe wise, it makes no sense. His entire gimmick is being all for himself, trust nobody, fighting the corporate Authority, and now were just confirming he was a corporate choice?
:westbrook3
That's kinda cool, it's pretty obvious how the business is run and the reaction he got from the fans, is he really going to say I Won it? No way lol. It is the huge negative reaction that made him say it, normally he wouldn't have said something like that.
They shouldn't have asked him that question in the first place. The question completely broke kayfabe. Why would the authority be hand-picking or giving special treatment to babyface Reigns. Stupid question, stupid answer.
What is with this "handpicked", "best for business", "B+ player" bullshit. This is fucking fake. There's WINS, and LOSSES. You're either a WINNER, or you're a LOSER. Will they stop with this fucking handpicked shit? I know it's fake, stop fucking telling me ON THE AIR. What other industry pulls this stupid shit? I'm so glad I can watch a movie or a tv show without the actors telling me that the casting director "handpicked" them. fpalm
No wonder nobody fucking cares about this stupid company, they can't even PRETEND their fucking fake show is fucking fake.
I skipped last RAW - and the post above explains why I'm not that interested in most storylines.
I wish WWE would bring back kayfabe - those semi-shoot storylines are all the same and completely devoid of creativity minus a few dumb catchphrases such as best for business or grabbing the brass ring which are just flat-out annoying. WWE doesn't realize MMA has already covered that base of real storylines.
They shouldn't have asked him that question in the first place. The question completely broke kayfabe. Why would the authority be hand-picking or giving special treatment to babyface Reigns. Stupid question, stupid answer.
Every successful person was or is handpicked for success. Seth Rollins, Sting, Stone Cold, The Rock and many more. It's not a secret. They are handpicked but they have to work for their success too. Now if Roman doesn't succeed with his opportunity then there is the next guy in line, just ask Ryback.
Of course he was hand-picked. He is being given things partly due to his look and heritage. The worst part was when he spoke about his deep love for wrestling. Maybe true, but you are only here because football didnt work out for you. This isnt your first love.
