got sick of that chant. On every RAW or PPV morons (probably indy and TNA fans) chant that stupid shit even if nothing really awesome happens. Last night was proof of that and you can't chant it for a staredown between Y2Jobber and Brock. That is a chant that you need to use when Sting debuted or when Sting and Taker are face to face for the first time not at every shit segment or when a spotmonkey does his routine in every match.
This chant is more unbearable than the YES chant and that says a lot.
I dont recall anybody saying they cant but the guy is correct .Totally agree with him ,The fans have paid there money and rightly so can chant what they want but ffs i have heard that awful song a few times recently when absolutely fuckall has happened. Most noticeable being when Ambrose was stood on the ladders in the ring looking down at Bray and the above point mentioned when Brock and Y2j were squared up.The crowd chanting shit like that will make Vince believe that the work he is currently providing us with is decent.when in reality its the total opposite
Totally agreed with you, I think they should be absolutely silent, wwe should actually duct tape their mouths or better yet don't even let them enter the stadium. That'd be such an awesome show.
Okay I won't even pretend to be respectful here, this thread is bursting with dumbarsery.
Both sides have some sound points but they're poorly expressed all round and it's descended into an embarrassing shit slinging contest.
OP: Forget the "probably indy and TNA fans" because there's likely nothing to that; the chants originated in those promotions and I'd suspect indy fans would be more likely to reserve them for genuine high points.
Your insults about them being "sheep" is foolish - why exactly are they sheep? Because a chant starts and they pick it up? That's what happens in every arena (ideally), it's what happens with chants and cheers everywhere. If some of the people don't genuinely think it's awesome and just want to join in then okay, that'd make them sheep but how could you possibly know this? You don't.
Your theory about never seeing fans joining in something purely because it's infectuous in the Monday Night War/Golden Age era is 100% Aberdeen Angus bullshit. This "kids of today" fallacy exists in every single generation, always has, always will, and we could point to a thousand instances that prove you wrong here.
Opposition: There IS a valid criticism of "THIS IS AWESOME" and the rebuttals have been terrible, particularly the shameless false choice of "So you would prefer it if the crowds were silent?" - don't insult your own intelligence with B.S. false dichotomies like that as though there are two options, just a binary A or B choice.
Here's the reasonable criticism:
If you say "This is the most incredible thing ever to happen" and it's not even close then what happens? Everybody watching thinks "no it's not, it's okay but it's nowhere near brilliant" and so you downgrade it in their minds - by making exaggerated comparisons you make people focus on what it isn't instead of what it is.
It's often done at times when people should be caring about the babyface in danger if they're fully immersed in the in ring entertainment. Example: Daniel Bryan, beloved by the crowd, is suddenly surrounded by The Wyatt Family who look like they're going to murder him. Chanting "THIS IS AWESOME" takes you completely out of the fiction and says "this is all fake but gee isn't it entertaining?". It's appreciating the shiny lights and explosions but it's not being invested in the wrestler's struggle and THAT is when wrestling is as its most dramatic, that's when wrestling gets over and works.
Ah what's the point? The bullet points no longer format text in a way that won't scare people off so I doubt any responders will actually read this.
Did anyone briefly hear it when the kids tried doing it lol? I think it was when Kane tomb stoned the bunny but got immedtialty drowned out by music and adult fans. Gave me a little chortle as I hate the little fuckers.
This is one thing I do agree with. When I went to TLC this past Sunday it really bugged me when this chant would start up over every subpar spot. I think a chant like "This is Awesome" should be saved for truly epic moments such as Sting and Taker being face to face for the first time.
I disagree let the morons chant away!! It finally brings some atmosphere to a silent and dead crowd. There's been too many silent and boring crowds recently which have killed matches for me. So if they want to over cheer or over boo I don't care as long as they're getting behind it

This is awesome is a chant reserved for wrestling spot excellence. It´s just as stupid of a chant for a Sting/Taker staredown, especially since you know a match between Sting and Taker can only be crap in 2015.
While I agree with parts of it, it does throw the WWE way off because for a mediocre segment you will hear them chant "Boring" at some of them, and for the other mediocre chants you will sometimes hear them chant "This is awesome." Boring chants may be accurate, but I think the fans were excited to see Brock because it was a surprise and fans thought an actual match was going to take place between Jericho and Lesnar.
so i guess the whole audience at nxt (r)evolution were a bunch of morons for chanting stuff and having fun during the entire show. fucking idiots were actually engaged in the wrestling show in front of them and displayed the nerve to participate. fucking jerks. they should just sit on their hands and cheer for the good guys and boo the bad guys and nothing more. anything else is just uncivilized boorish behavior.

It's better than the fans chanting for the commentators, or CM Punk.
