Original plans for ‘Imposter’ Kane Storyline

Source:http://whatculture.com/wwe/wwe-10-things-you-never-knew-almost-happened.php/8

In 2006 unmasked Kane came face to face with a fully masked ‘Imposter’ Kane. This storyline was rumoured to have been penned following speculation that Glenn Jacobs was contemplating retirement. As a result the WWE in not wanting to relinquish the Kane gimmick with Jacob’s retirement, decided to create an ‘Imposter’ Kane based on Kane’s 1997 debut. This would allow the man portraying the ‘Imposter Kane’, the opportunity to portray the character virtually hidden from the scrutiny of the WWE fans. The plan was to have ‘Imposter Kane’ revealed as the real Kane that the "Glenn Jacobs" Kane had imprisoned for years before stealing his identity.
However the plans were dropped as fans became increasingly confused as to who was the ‘real’ Kane. In addition as Jacobs decided to hold off his retirement, the whole ‘imposter’ Kane storyline became irrelevant. However had Jacobs retired, the WWE Universe would have been introduced to a new Kane in an old fully masked Kane gimmick!
Thank god this didn't happen, although I find it very hard to believe this was even been discussed. Not sure if I believe the full article to be honest.

"Fans became increasingly confused as to who the real Kane was"

LOL, no they didn't! It was the shorter one with the terrible wig, obviously. Who the hell was confused by this?

That idea sounds ridiculous though. Paul Bearer brought Kane to the WWF. He wouldn't have noticed that his fucking son got imprisoned and replaced by some random guy?

Yeah, I'm kinda glad it happened the way it did after reading that shit. Interesting to hear Kane was contemplating retirement back then, and yet here he is, 8 years later and still going strong.
hmmmmmm

Yeah... I doubt this was the case. Kane is all about the look, and although Jacobs wasn't in the greatest shape back then, he was head and shoulders above Festus. No way would wwe have been able to draw that out.

"Fans were confused..." :lmao

I have big doubts about the whole thing as well, to be honest like you said Kane is all about the look and there's not many people about there that are nearly 7 foot and built like Jacobs. The whole thing wouldn't have made any sense whatsoever. Here is a brief interview with Drew Hankinson talking about the "Imposter" Storyline.

That would've worked out about as well as the fake Diesel and fake Razor Ramon characters did.

I actually thought the 'fake Kane' storyline had potential, but they squandered it and just used it as a cheap way to promote the movie. Then when that purpose was done they just kind of wrapped it up and tossed the whole storyline out without any real resolution. Just another disappointing Kane storyline...

i like the idea.

Glenn pretending to be the real kane would play up to those old internet conspiracies about the original Kane being "Dead".

The execution they went with was poor tho.

All that sounds downright lame. I just know when Mr. Jacobs does decide to hang it up, Kane needs to with him. No one else could ever be the big red machine and on one else should even try.

As was so painfully illustrated already with just this story.

Tats were the problem if I remember right. I think more could have came from the angle for sure even after Glenn decided to stay. I don't remember exactly how it ended because I really didn't watch much back then. It just seems there was potential there to have something happen.

I know the article does seem very stupid, to be honest I don't think I even believe that WWE had plans to continue the Kane Character without Jacobs back in 2006. I mean how would it have possibly even worked? Jacobs makes the Kane Character with his height, his size, his personality etc.

I don't hate this angle actually. It made no sense that Kane originally was burnt up, couldn't talk, ect. and gradually we were supposed to forget all that. I have no problem with another guy playing Kane if he can do it convincingly enough with Glen's moveset.

Doubt that could ever happen. Every nuance Gallows channelled seemed a little over the top. Not a soul on this earth can replicate the swag Jacobs brings to the Kane character
