King of Fighters all day.

This was my 'go to' custom team for the most part. Though I was always trying to get accustomed to as many players as I could. Especially the grappler types they were harder to use but very powerful, you just had to be smart and patient. I always felt that KOF took more skill than Street Fighter, tbh. Also:

Mai Shiranui's bouncy fighting stance.

Ralf

TKOF just rocked. I get the constant Street Fighter comparison, but like you said, the game requires timing and precision. If you go into this straight up button mashing, chances are you're you're going to get fucking OWNED. First game I played was TKOF96 on the SEGA Saturn. Used to pick Goro Daimon for his Super Deadly Move, and because he was an absolute beast.

What do you think of Killer Instinct Gold? Seems to be very underrated amungst hardcore 2d fighter gamers. That game had the SICKEST combo strings i've seen in any game. Only thing is that the game plays much better with a 3rd party controller than the proprietary one from Nintendo. That thing was far too clunky.

So much hype surrounding that game, but it didn't disappoint. One of my all time favourite games. Unlike Mario 2 which was a major fucking disappointment. Those tanks at the end were tough though, like incredibly tough. Think I may have broken a controller trying to get past world 8.

That game was awesome and groundbreaking for the time. I remember so many fights with my brothers about who pushed the button for a duel, heh. Luckily I'm the oldest and we were still young enough back then that I could kick their asses if they stole my star cards. Mario 2, meh, in retrospect there are a lot of things about it I love but at the time it was a shite followup to the original.

Le sigh. I actually liked Mario 2. Hard to cover up the fact that it's candy coated Doki Doki Panic, but as a kid I didn't have a fucking clue what that was so it didn't bother me.

Yeah I remember that, it was on Mario: All Stars for the Snes. Hard ass game. Apparently, they didn't release that on the Western Market because they thought American gamers were too stupid to get through it lol

I managed to complete it, wasn't easy though.

You'd have sections like having to do a running jump and landing on a single block whilst getting chased by a cloud and whilst having to nagivate through the level with hammer bros everywhere.

Didn't get through it as a kid, but went back years later and finished it. It should've been the actual Mario sequel, but looking back it's really just a harder version of the first game. They wanted to make the sequel more distinctive so in a way it get it. Probably should've been more original though.

As hard as Lost levels was, wait till you get a load of this mod if you haven't already

Pure insanity.

I have 'super' fond memories of the first Mario Bros arcade version. We had the back of the machine pulled out so we could press the free credit button...and the owners never seemed to say anything. They must have noticed that box was empty at the end of each day while there was a line-up at the machine.
