An AR is actually not that great indoors, and the long barrel length makes it a bitch to swivel around a corner or any type of barrier. A pistol, a concealed one, at that, means that the element of surprise is its biggest advantage. In a one on one situation, a trained guy with a rifle and a trained guy with a handgun, yeah, you're going to have to be pretty proficient. But when a guy walks in and just starts firing at random - that's not one on one. You don't just pull out your gun and challenge him to a duel. You take cover and assess the situation, unholster your firearm, and go from there.
I don't live in Florida, by the way. So if that John McClain reference was towards me, you'll have no worry.
