The UK is helpless, it's one of the reasons why they have such a high crime rate.

2012 has been a record setting year for gun sales. As of November, the FBI recorded 16,808,538 instant background checks for gun purchases for 2012.

Even without counting December, which has historically been the busiest month, this beats last year's record by more than 350,000.

If history is a guide, we can anticipate nearly 2 million additional gun checks to be added to the 2012 total when the December numbers come in, obliterating any previous total.

There are more than 129,817 federally licensed firearms dealers in the United States, according to the latest Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives numbers (as of Aug. 1).

Of those, 51,438 are retail gun stores, 7,356 are pawn shops and 61,562 are collectors, with the balance of the licenses belonging mostly to manufacturers and importers of firearms and destructive devices. For comparison, here are some numbers of other ubiquitous elements of American life:

• Gas Stations in the U.S. (2011): 143,839 (source TD LINX/Nielsen via National Associations of Convenience Stores, Association for Convenience for Convenience and Fuel Retailing)

• Grocery Stores in the U.S. (2011) 36,569 (source: Food Marketing Institute)

• McDonald's restaurants in the U.S. (2011): 14,098 (Source: McDonald's Corporation Annual Report 2011)

Yes, there are more stores selling guns than groceries.
Ho-ly, shit guys, hooooly shit.

I wonder where America ranks on that homicide statistic, I think it's cool you didn't mention that.

Good! It's the law now! No one breaks the law... Right? Only a matter of time before anarchy reigns supreme.

Why don't we check out the homicide rate in Chicago to see how effective gun bans are first? Chicago has the strictest firearm bans in the nation, so it must be so low.

Turns out that there's a cultural, illegal gun ownership, and gang problem in this nation, not necessarily a gun problem.

It wouldn't rank anywhere because if you actually looked at the entire graphic you would notice that the circles at the bottom use statistics compiled from the EU for an EU RANKING.

Have you seen how many smackheads reside in the UK?

Nothing to do with not walking around with an AK an a Bazooka to protect yourself.

Well we can see what America actually includes on this and what other countries take as violent crime.

Quote:
The reported US violent crime rate includes only Aggravated Assault, whereas the Canadian violent crime rate includes all categories of assault, including the much-more-numerous Assault level 1 (i.e., assault not using a weapon and not resulting in serious bodily harm).
I'm sure that if you include all of that which America has left out of the rate things will look rather different

One thing s guy said on a TV interview (can't remember the state) is that certain places are trying to make guns permanently registered in someone's name. So when they'er old they can't pass it on to their children.

I think that's stupid. As long as the person your giving it to is qualified, you should be able to pass it on after a hefty registration process. Don't know what the point of that was.
