I hear what you're saying. But they still belong to the same genre "First person shooter" regardless of setting. They may have a slightly different setting, but at the end of the day you're still an asshole with a gun.
Just like the game previous made by the same company, "Wolfenstein 3d" only they swapped the human soldiers with demons, the premise is still the same.
Call of Duty is a modern take on the fps genre, that can't be disputed, but I feel that the features added on have been to the genres detriment, for the reasons listed above. This isn't just limited to Call of Duty, I just feel that was the best modern example.
