This. What happened to booklets? I'm still surprised when I open up a new game and there is no booklet.

Max Payne 1 & 2 are better then 3 by a lot. I enjoyed 3 but I'm not sure if that was due to going in with low expectations or not.
I disagree with the thread as a whole, I think story is important. Probably gameplay is the only thing more important. Some games do go overboard tho. I've played games where it goes cut scene, move two steps forward, cut scene. Stupid.
The one game that I wish would've had a sequel on the new systems was Black on the PS2, headshots in that game had the best sound, there was this cling when you'd hit the enemy in the helmet. It had great function and feel to it.
5 wasn't that bad of a game. The main reason it was judged so harshly is it was just such a massive departure from the original Resident Evil's. They basically took away (for the most part) the most unique aspect of the Resident Evil games (the survival horror aspect) Those who remember the original Resident Evil remember how scary it felt to have a handgun with fuck all ammo and fuck all health. Slowly creeping around the next corridor hoping and praying that there will be some ammo and herbs. When ll of a sudden SMASH glass breaks and zombies come piling into the room through a window. You turn to run but zombies are coming in from the other side.
In 5, you hardly ever had that feeling of utter panic, you had far too much ammo and even if you did "die" you had a partner who could resurrect you. Having said all that, if you judged it on it's own merits as an action orientated game, it was a very good game.
I guess sometimes you gotta begrudgingly move along with the times, even if you're not ready to do so. Which is probably where this rant came from. I remember a time when games were solely focused on gameplay and not so much story orientated. I'm sure if I was a 17 year old who grew up on call of duty and not a 30 year old who grew up on Sonic/Mario/Alex kidd etc. it wouldn't be so much of a problem.
