Even people who are busy have enough time to play a game with a quality story.
But seriously, as a gamer, I have to say that your rant is such a weird one - so many games have awful stories or they are simply "too short", yet you are asking for less?
I mean, there are always games like that, but a game with a good, long and nicely developed story is always welcome for me.
After all, I can't just perpetually "shoot dudes for no reason".

Yeah, how dare they improve and deepen the story. How dare they evolve as companies.
I kid, I kid, in all seriousness I understand, but you can still get a lot of those kind of games. Zelda, Mario etc. still exist. Not everyone is a Fable/Skyrim guy.
How the fuck could anyone hate longer stories in games?
I get more attached to the story and the characters with the 'movie' approach they have taken.
Fucking love that shit.
Not to say old games suck, I love old games, but I find them more for quick, random fun. I still got attached to characters, but, not as much, and not in as many games. Now, it is easier to find at least one character you really give a shit about and follow their story.
If it weren't for bigger storylines, I would just want to plow Chris Redfield for the hell of it, but, since RE always had a movie story to it, he's plowable for many reasons, instead of just being some random guy with hardly any known info.

For example, the cutscenes and the story in GTA series are the reason why I love that games. Helped a lot to learn about the characters and some of them really grew on me thanks to the cutscenes

I don't necessarily have a problem with story in "roleplaying games" after all you know what you're signing up for as it's supposed to be a storydriven experience.
My problem is with games that don't need a long drawn out storyline like action orientated games. I would happily trade story for more gameplay. I'm not saying cut out the story altogether, but I want to play a game not watcha bad movie and fall asleep on my controller for half an hour.
I don't mind if the game has a long ass story as long as it's a good mix of story and action(ie C.O.D or GTA). What really bothers me is when you have a game that seems like it has a good story but then when you first play you realize that the story is shit like medal of honor or frontline.
Depends on the game tbh. In games like GTA or Skyrim the story is needed as a part of it. However games like pokemon I really don't need a story tbh I just want to catch them all damnit

Seriously though, I do like the Resident Evil games, I think it's right on the peak of how much story in games I can tolerate. The majority of the game is action and gameplay, not holyfuckwhenisitgonnaend storylines.
