You would think a more appropriate question would be, "so, do you set fire to churches?" Silly people can't get their stereotypes right.

Re: Music type/preference generalization

Yeah, I dislike generalization like that.

I look completely average regarding the way I dress. Based on the culture here, you'd imagine that I listen to national pop/folk music here or something.

Yet I'm "hipster as shit" and listen to "bands you haven't even heard of" - heavy metal and old-school rap.

Re: Music type/preference generalization

I like to think I have a diverse musical palette. It ranges from R&B in the 60s–70s, to the mainstream pop artists like Beyonce, Kesha, and Lady Gaga, while also including some orchestral pieces as well as heavy metal bands such as Pink Floyd and Megadeth. I find a lot of things to pleasing to my ears.

As far as stereotypes are concerned, there was a few dudes in my Calculus class last year in high school who poked fun at some random student because he listened to Lady Gaga. That same week, we conversed about our favorite singers and bands. I let it be known that I was a passionate Lady Gaga fan, to one response, "You're gay, though. It's okay for you to listen to Lady Gaga." I let that one slide since he was a friend of mine, but it nonetheless irritated me.

I like Lady Gaga when it's just her and a piano. I'm not into the dance stuff but she has a good voice.

I do admire the fact that she has a lot of versatility to fall on. I'd love for her to release an acoustic EP or a tour album.

Yeah, some people are lazy cunts. I like the look on people's faces when I list out music I dig (usually, mentioning metal gets the job done). People give me a look as if their eyeballs are about to shoot from their sockets like a bullet from a gun.

Re: Music type/preference generalization

I have quite an eclectic taste in music, genres change with the whim of my mood. At the moment I'm partial to Classical music and Oasis. Tomorrow it will be billy talent and the black keys or something, just listen to whatever you want to. I don't understand why people think they have to conform and listen to music they don't necessarily like but do it to see 'cool.'

k.

This is another issue that bothers me.

Idiotic people think that if a black guy who listens to gangsta rap has a Glock in his pants, and a cadillac filled with marijuana.

Or a emo teenager that listens to black metal and hard rock songs is a mentally unstable, satan-worship maniac.

The thing is, it's not only eldery people who think this (the majority are) but alot of people my age still use these generalizations, it's pathetic.

Re: Music type/preference generalization

What I hate more is when ignorant people call metal screamo and the fact most people think emo is whiny pop punk when actual emo music is closer to hardcore music and is actually good.

Also Noyk black metal, hard rock and emo music have little in common with each other.

emo =/= Black Metal

Emos have diverse tastes in music, mostly in indie pop.

Btw, Faith No More > All. Just saying.
