Not to be rude but you shouldn't talk about something you don't know and just assume that it is the OP's fault. I've just finished university and I can tell you that the student finance system here in the UK is an absolute joke. The first year I sorted it out I did it 5 months in advance and yet SF here didn't sort out properly until a couple of weeks before I went to uni. That is right, it took them almost 5 months to sort out
one case that being mine and they kept sending me multiple letters and emails telling me they needed information to prove my and my parents financial standings even though it was done months ago. The amount of headaches we got just because of how unorganised and shitty the system is was unparalleled. I know people who didn't even receive their SF until a few weeks into their first year, it is that bad. Just proves you can't trust the government to sort everything and do a better job than the free market. But that's for another discussion.
I don't know what the living expenses and tuition fees are like in Australia but here unless you come from a super rich family you are pretty much forced take out a student loan from the government because the fees and living expenses are so high. Which sucks because not only are we putting ourselves in so much debt but we have to deal with this fucked up mess.
Its not as simple as "sorting out your finance affairs and interpersonal skills better", it shouldn't take 5 months to sort everything out.
