Default why do people waste their time with religion?

there are so many other productive things they could be doing rather than wasting time on fake shit. yes, wrestling is fake, but it's a form of entertainment for us. i assume the majority of us here have higher priorities. religious fanatics put god, the bible, and all that shit above everything else.

Why are you comparing wrestling to religion?

not very perceptive, are you? read my first sentence in the OP. that sentence could have referred to wrestling, so i wanted to justify wrestling by saying that even though it's fake, it's only entertainment. it was never "religion vs. wrestling".

I'm heavily agnostic. I defy the bible entirely, and hold no stock in anything it says as far as it being proof of anything.

However, I am not an atheist either. To say religion is definitely not true - how the heck do you know?

Now, the evidence for a higher being is primarily faith based. I have no problem with that. In fact, those who adhere to the rules of religion and try to lead noble lives - good for you. Religion at its best is a good thing as far as the behavior in people it can cause. The people who take things too far with religion and do things "in the name of god" are who are not doing religion any favors. My personal gripe with religion, is that some of these religious people are evolution deniers, and that is where I draw the line. Evolution has mounds of evidence that would imply that a large portion of it is scientifically fact. Yes the evolutionary process has some gaps, but overall it's a pretty solid case that evolution is real.

Religion, done properly, should make people want to be nice to one another. God is basically to adults what Santa Claus is to children. Kids get older and realize there is no Santa when they see how illogical it is for one guy to get down a chimney to every house on Earth in 1 night. Adults get even older and still think one guy follows the thoughts and actions of every single person on Earth, has favorites, and helps teams wins sports.

If I was god, or a god of a planet, I wouldn't have any preference over anyone. Look at a batch of Sea Monkeys, a fish tank with all goldfish, or say an Ant Farm - does anyone here study the farm, the bowl, the tank and go "You know, that one right there, he's definitely my favorite.

Illogical. Foolish. I could give a shit if an ant gives me tribute. Go eat some food, I have better shit to do. If god wanted us to worship him (IF, there is a god, mind you) then he should come down here and tell me so. If I was designed by him, then how the hell can he blame me or think ill of me for using my "god given brains" to look around and come to the logical conclusion "You know, the evidence for one guy making this entire planet with all the geographical, archeological and biological data we have, is pretty far fucking fetched".

I don't see how a god could care or be happy/mad. A guy who could create or destroy all of this - he gives a shit what *I'm* doing? Yeah....ok.

Why do people waste time watching TV - cue person giving shitty reason

Why do people waste time reading books - cue person giving good shitty reason

Why do people waste time on internet forums instead of going out and living life - cue person giving shitty reason

Now to answer your question - Why the fuck do you care?

this thread could be a great debate thread. I recently stopped going to church (protestant, christian). Major reasoning? How did good determine good and bad? IF God is the ultimate being, then he has no one to answer to. Why did he create us? Why does he care if we go to heaven or hell? Christians say "because he loves his children." So God, the ultimate being, a 'thing' that defies all science and reasoning, developed love and compassion (and loneliness) and created human beings in order to have them live lives and die to come join him?

Why do people think they can fathom what a god thinks or behaves like? Their Gods! They have no one to answer to. We can't fathom how they 'behave' or what the reason by. It's ridiculous. All we have, is some text, that was written up hundreds of years ago. Plus, the fear of going to Hell. I'll admit, I still fear going to hell, therefore I haven't forgotten God completely yet. I feel I should at least read the bible COMPLETELY first, before I judge. Until then, forget praying and talking to Jesus.

Well, I'm Catholic, and I don't see religion as a "waste of time" - I mean, come on, it's just one hour every Sunday!

Seriously though, I can understand how religion can have its many detractors, and that's fine. It's a personal choice for each individual to make. For me, it just provides that little extra guidance, hope and faith that I need to get through life. If people think that makes me weak, then so be it.

And yes, it is almost entirely faith based. Can I prove that there is a God? Nope. Can't help you there. Do I believe that one exists? Yes.

I certainly don't go imposing my beliefs on others, however - secularism and respect for individual choice is certainly the way to go. That's what I don't like about Christinaity in America, which just seems too fanatic, preachy and overbearing. I live in Australia, and it is something that is purely up to you.

Why does it matter what people waste their time with to you OP? It seems like it matters to you for whatever reason.
