We have free health care in Australia as well but you can opt to get private health care/insurance you pay for and go into Private hospitals etc instead of waiting for ages in a normal one. I assumed Canada was the same?

Can't opt out in Canada. Everyone puts into the pot and the government decides how to distribute the funds, whether a citizen uses a service or not. There are private options for those who can afford them, but they still pay the same taxes.

The US WAS greater. 'Is' is yet to be seen since at least 1999. But your comment is why a lot of foreigners feign their hate for us. At the same time though they give it right back so I don't understand why they are up on a pedestal?

This is the same for me, although it is reductionism, everyone from another country I meet says they dislike Americans because of their petty self absorbed nature. My question is though who is the victim here? I mean isn't it petty and self absorbed to dislike someone? I just see a divide in culture, no real cause for concern or reform from either side.

That sort of makes sense but at the same time in the history of the world America was the first democratic nation and currently their are only a few countries left that are not democratic or transitioning to democracy. So if our political process is bad then models of it are going to be somewhat bad as well. But the problem is honestly that both parties are pretty bad, but one party is bad to disregard rules, start wars, promote America only, use Christianity as a form of nationalism and generally spout untrue facts and figures on everything. While the other party is bad to attempt to make more rules, stop wars, promote collaboration, let people practice their religion freely and generally stretch the facts and figures to accomplish this.

They do go to the US quite routinely for major surgeries because the doctor's here are supposedly better. I don't agree with that at all, I agree with you that they are being ridiculous, but statistics in the 2004 and 2008 election against US national health care state this is the case.

Stop making up information. That's not why Canadians go to the states. It has to do with wait times on our overburdened system and people with enough wealth to pursue a more expedient route which includes private practices in the United States. The doctors in Canada are some of the best in the world.

National healthcare is a double edged sword, but overall its good for the poor population and bad for the rich, just think of it in those terms.

Personally the NHS over here in the UK isn't perfect and has quite a few problems, but its still workable and overall I'm thankful that we have it. Can't imagine having to sign a cheque at a hospital after being shot before getting treatment.

Also the 'Americans are stupid' speal needs to end, every nation has dumb people, for the most part Americans are no different to Europeans in this respect.
