I work with a bunch of Republicans (which is sort of surprising really) and for the most part I really don't care... but there's this one guy who gets me mad every time he starts talking politics. Every so often he'll go off on liberals and how everyone is "lazy" and all that crap, while this guy has his parents paying fully for his college AND a beach house he lives in off-campus, while he goes out gambling and drinking all the time and gets pretty bad grades. Add to that he got his job through connections (I don't remember exactly, either his mom works in another department or is friends with the boss or something) and has, in the past, "forgotten" to come into work once or twice. Which is fine with me, everyone makes mistakes... but then there's my other friend I worked with who was basically fired after he was caught texting on a slow day. So yeah, he's a nice guy and everything but when he goes off on stuff politics, he sounds like such an ignorant hypocrite it's amazing. ...Not that this has much to do with the topic.

But yes, not all, but a lot of Republicans here seem pretty bad. Both sides have their bad qualities but it certainly seems like the majority of Republicans are either religious fanatics or Tea Baggers or hypocrites or crazy or homophobes, etc etc. I know some that aren't any of the above and they're absolutely fine so I wouldn't call them all out, but... well the latest GOP candidates sort of illustrates the problem they have: if Romney, Trump, Gingrich, Bachmann, Perry, and worst of all Santorum are the big names in the party, that definitely doesn't look good. Huntsman seemed like the only guy worth a damn really and he was basically the jobber of the group there.

The Republicans have the Tea Party which is why most people don't like them. Democrats aren't saints either but at least they're not as annoying and ignorant.

What's ironic is during the early American politics, the Democrats were the conservative party whilst the Republicans were the liberal party.

Currently, American politics are a joke. As a whole, Republicans are far-right and Democrats are center-right. There is no far-left or center/balanced party in our current two-party system. With the Republican party making its main points anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, and inserting Christianity into government and law as much as possible, I do not see how people keep voting for them. At least the Republican party realized Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum are too crazy to be the face of the party.

As for my dealings with Republicans: I used to live and work in Seattle, WA. I worked with mostly liberal-leaning, sensible people, but we had one ultra-conservative. He was one of those born-again Christians that liked to tell everyone that they had to "turn to Jesus" or face eternal damnation. A typical night (I worked 12 hour night shifts) consisted of the latest stories from Fox News, which he watched religiously, and the latest on how the Muslims were taking over America. The man went so far as to carry a miniature plastic doll of an aborted fetus and showing it to anyone that wasn't anti-abortion.

how can you judge extremists and label the entire party that way? That would be like me basing the entire democrat party off of Al Gore lol Both sides have their points, but are both equally as bad. Thats why i am a registered constitutional libertarian. My beliefs tend to be that mostly of the conservative side, but some of the things they believe in are just absurd. The only republicans I have truly ever supported since i became legal voting age are Rand Paul and Ron Paul

OP, it honestly sounds like the specific type of Republican you're talking about are the tea party ones.

Honestly though, a lot of Republicans in this country really are crap... I can't stand the lot of them. They rarely bring anything up that's good for this country.

I remember, in one of the speeches that Santorum guy called Obama a nig...and then stopped, and completely changed the course of the sentence. And there are people who will vote for that guy? That guy could wield a nuclear arsenal and stand at the helm of one of the most powerful nations on the planet? For fucks sake, i've listened to some of those turds who are running for the president talking about how they don't believe in woman's right to choose her partner and how they don't believe in separation of church and fuckin state. WHAT THE FUCK? Seriously, who are those people? Are they some kind of time travelers from a paralel Hellraiser universe? Sorry, but i just shiver even thinking about it.
Not to be a dick about semantics, but Santorum didn't call Obama a nig, he just almost dropped the N bomb and referred to blacks as lazy more or less. But he won't be the president, not even close. And where did you hear that a candidate said women shouldn't be able to choose their partners? Who said that? I haven't heard that. As for church and state, they have to talk about it to cater to the rednecks, racists, and religious people. Once in office, the President never touches the issue such as gay marriage or abortion or stuff like that. They just have a platform on the matter during the electoral process because they have too. Abortion is legal because of Roe v Wade not because of a president.

I agree that most of the Republican candidates this year are extremely weak. But there are good ones at there like Chris Christie.

The American economy still runs the world. And like every country is in debt.

My biggest pet peeve is people from outside the US who act like they're smarter than the average American and think that we're a bunch of morons. We don't have one of the largest economies in the world from being a bunch of idiots.

I didn't label either party, actually. I actually applauded the Republicans for not allowing Bachmann or Santorum to be the face of the party. If you are alluding to my stating the Republican party is anti-gay marriage, anti-abortion and predominantly Christian, please give me facts and sources that show otherwise.

Since frequenting this forum I have noticed you respond in this tone to a lot of posts, blatantly showing that you either did not read the person's post or completely missed the context/meaning of their post. Just an observation.

While I support Ron Paul, his son Rand is off his rocker.

It's not one of the largest. It is the largest. And its not even close. If California was its own country it would be either the 7th or 9th biggest economy by GDP (I can't remember which)

True. Even with the recession, we're still way ahead of everyone else.
