However, it is our right not to have the federal government force us to purchase something or face penalties. If you faced no penalty from not opting into the service, then I would have zero problem with it. The government has no right to force Americans to purchase something.

How am I wrong? I fully believe Barack Obama was born in the United States. However, that pamphlet says he was born in Kenya and that agency requires writers to write their own biography. All that pamphlet shows is that Barack Obama lied about where he was born.

Would you be ok with it if they spin it around and instead of making you "purchase" just take it via taxes?

It would basically be the same thing though since at the end of the day, you'd still be paying into it. I see why they had the mandate in there since it will only survive if people pay into it but it is still unconstitutional. If the people who didn't want it didn't have to pay into it at all then I would be fine with it but it wouldn't survive if that was the way it was run.

Re: Republicans
The state government forces you have the liability insurance for your vehicle. Health insurance is different? LOL no it's not, actually it's more important. I still hate the mandate regardless.
And you don't face jail time for not buying into the system. And it's not govt healthcare. It's an exchange that is full private insurance at a discount. Basically this health care is subsidizing insurance companies. This is a deal that totally benefits private insurance. That's why it won't be found unconstitutional too.
Also hypocritical Republicans were once FOR this mandate. (Democrats can be hypocrites too of course and are)

Sounds like you need a referendum. I can only speak for the EU countries but when we are facing a big issue like that we use this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Referendum
Direct democracy is the only democracy.

Re: Republicans
Just out of curiousity, how is using tax dollars to fund health care any different than using tax dollars to fund education? Your essentially being 'forced' to pay whether one has children or not.

Re: Republicans
More on the Occupy vs Tea Party Debate
The Tea Party took to the streets in favor of higher profits and less regulations for the richest 1 percent, facing little to no police intervention. The Tea Party has since phased out street protests to take over a major political party.
As for retaliation against the Occupy Movement:
-A night before protests even begun, the Chicago Police Department raided an activist’s home and arrested several on unproven allegations of terrorist activity, all without a valid warrant.
-While covering the protests, journalists were attacked by police who used bicycles as weapons.
-After a day of covering the protests, three livestreamers were surrounded by Chicago police at gunpoint and had their car and property impounded without cause.
-FBI agents pressured a group of anarchists in Ohio to blow up a bridge on May Day, going so far as to pick out a target and provide the explosives. They were held without bond after their arrest. An undercover FBI agent eventually convinced them to plant a phony bomb under a bridge in a Cleveland suburb, providing the justification for the arrests. White supremacists in Florida planning an actual terrorist attack at a May Day protest were outed by state police, and ignored by federal law enforcement. Their bond was set at $500.

Well, the difference is that the state is requiring it and not the federal government. It's the same reason why I had no problem with Romneycare, since it was at the state level.

The United States doesn't have referendums at the federal level but even if the United States did have a referendum for Obamacare, it would die.

Re: Republicans
Eh they're both governmental bodies mandating insurance. I see no difference at all. But we both dislike the mandate, albeit for different reasons so it's all good.

And the actual difference between who's collecting it is?
