They were clearly going for the casual audience with the Wii. They made the system as cheap price wise and design wise to sell to parents of kids.
Also for some reason people went ape shit when they came out with motion controls to go with it. Now the other systems have motion controls which takes away any uniqueness the Wii as a system has outside of Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. The Wii U is the system they should have came out with five years ago.

Lulz at the OP too. Original GBA to the SP only changed the size and form factor of the system. It was pretty much the same system.
