Now before you think this is just someone complaining about people finding it offensive or wanting to use it myself it is not. I am white therefore I don't say this word ever. This rant is about rap artists though who not only use this word like it is at the top of their vocabulary list but then title songs with the word in the title. I currently can't tell you my favorite track off Watch The Throne because I can't say that word. I know I am not their target audience but country doesn't exactly target African Americans either. That however doesn't mean there are words they can't say. Nothing is off limits to us as far as what other people say. If you want me to not use a word that is fine but you can't make it a song title or every word in a song and get pissed if someone sings along. Basically either lighten up or change how you use it. I am well aware some people may get mad at me for this but I felt it was a point I not only wanted to make but want opinions on.
IIRC, Samuel L Jackson, in an interview with Michael Parkinson, was discussing the use of the word. His view was if it's ok for him to say it then it should be ok for everyone else. He doesn't buy the arguement that it's 'Their Word'
I personally don't care if a white person says ...... I can understand why people from segregation times may find something wrong with it but most black people today are just further separating the world by catching offense over something so stupid like hearing someone say a word that they themselves misuse everyday.
The fact that we still put so much power into words like that is fascinating to me. And white or not, I'm using it. Always have and always will. Intent is what should matter, not the word itself. I wouldn't ever say it to a black person, but if I see someone I know and say "Sup N*igga?", I reserve the right to do so. It's one of the magic words, along with love and cunt.
It just annoys me to see rappers over-use the word because they either can't think of anything else, think using it makes them sound "gangsta", or are just plain ignorant.
One of my friends' Facebook pages the other day had all these posts from some guy who was promoting his own rap album, and every song called "Fuck these .....z", "What they want from a .....", "Can't stop dis ....." and I'm sorry, it's fucking stupid.
I will always find it silly when someone uses that word, but I find it ridiculous when a white person says it.
