I certainly don't have a minor in African American history (or a major, for that matter) and I don't doubt your knowledge in the area but could you please provide some evidence that African slaves "hid" their intelligence from their captures or/and masters?

My 'people' have a history of slavery too. But if someone told me that the Irish slaves had to "hid" their intelligence from Cromwell and his minions I'd call bullshit.

This really. I don't think just the early English settlers or the African slaves built modern-day America. People like the Italians, Irish, Jews, Germans, among other immigrants also helped shape the United Sattes into what it is today.

He's just picking the lesser arguments and doesn't want to rationalize at ALL. Also why wouldn't a slave owner be afraid of a slave who could read or write? What would stop the said slave to forge documentation that allowed him and others freedom? The less one learns the more complacent they become.

No. I think he has a dissenting opinion to yours, OP, because of a feeling of oppression. The American Revolution wasn't fought by African Americans. English men who migrated over sought independence from the colonies, not slaves.

As far as slaves building the infrastructure of the US (talking about railroads, segments of civilizations, making contributions to society in the form of inventions, etc,.), I highly doubt that as well. They mostly were limited to work around the house, plantations, or in industrial plants from what I've read over the years.
