To be fair he probably learned about slavery and the Civil War in the 1960's or 70's. Can't expect the dinosaur to remember everything.

I don't really know why I'm about to bother with this anymore, but... I'll just say that while slaves obviously did not single-handedly build the USA, they did play a huge role in (mainly the South's) economy.

Slaves did help to build America. They didn't do it all by themselves, but I doubt it could have been done without their work.

Its worth noting that once mechanized farming implements [not invented by slaves, sorry] became available on a large basis, the need for slavery was damn near totally eliminated anyhow.
So if moral reasons did not end it, practicle reasons would have.

How is what I said wrong? I'm not giving them all the credit for the advancement of America. But they did play a part in it. All the labor work slaves did back then did help the country. They didn't play much part in shaping the direction we took, but things might have turned out very differently if they weren't around.

Truly efficient mechanization doesn't really show up until long after slavery was abolished. The internal combustion engine was invented after abolition.

The cotton gin actually increased the demand for slaves. The South, as it was in antebellum times, was entirely dependent on slaves. This is known by all who know anything about that era in American history. Of course, the industrialized North didn't need slaves, but they did want the rich agriculture that the South produced.

All this said, slaves alone did not build America, but they were essential to the American economy before the Civil War. Obviously, the US did just fine without slavery. Actually, without slavery the US grew far stronger.
