The Imperfect 01-20-2011 12:34 PM

The

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."

"The means of defense against foreign danger historically have become the instruments of tyranny at home."

"It is a universal truth that the loss of liberty at home is to be charged to the provisions against danger, real or pretended, from abroad."

"If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."
- James Madison (Principle author of the US Constitution; 4th President of the US)

"Those who give up essential liberties for temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
- Benjamin Franklin (Big pimpin')

"How strangely will the Tools of a Tyrant pervert the plain meaning of words!"
- Samuel Adams (Good beer)

"Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness."
- George Washington (The Man; 1st President of the US)

"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter, and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
- Abraham Lincoln (kinda counts; 16th President of the US)

Anyone care to argue in disagreement with these statements?

Not really. I will say that a college professor once told me that the Boston Tea Party was motivated by simple (and shady) economics rather than freedom. Supposedly Samuel Adams needed to eliminate his competition so they dumped the tea into Boston Harbor. That's all I remember. Take it for it's worth since I have no true sources and I'm not going to bother to look it up. Just a story I find funny if it's true.

I heard the same as MrMister. Apparently British tea was actually much more affordable than the other stuff out there. Better quality too. Someonem I cant remember who, made a deal with the smugglers to help eliminate the competition.

the last one.

i don't think Abraham Lincoln really understood nuclear warfare, considering it wasn't really prevalent back then. its true we'll most likely destroy ourselves if we are destroyed, but it's very, very possible for someone else to kick our ass.

interesting rant, i guess. seems like something for the anything section, but whatevs.

Re: The

Lincoln also didn't realize what China would become either.

Still, the first sentence of Lincoln's quote is rhetoric. The second and more important sentence is the crucial warning. Don't fuck this up lads.

This is your comeback rant Peter?

Disappointed bro. Did you hear our former high school is on lockdown because some chick brought a gun to school?

All the cool shit happens when we leave.

You went to high school for four years in Detroit and no one ever got caught for bringing a gun to school? Surely that has to be some kind of record. :p
