It helps when the leaf is being fired by a blue dinosaur with a giant 'bulb' on its back. But I see your point. Personally I'm still wondering what logic made them realise that fighting is good against Darkness and rocks, meanwhile bugs are super effective against psychic types.

Re: Andrew Laine
Bugs don't have a psyche to manipulate. Thought that was obvious.

Re: Andrew Laine
But what makes Normal types impervious to Ghost attacks? And how can Dragon moves be super effective against Dragon types when the only damage dealing Dragon move at the time was dragon rage, a set damage attack?

The First pokemon generation was a complex time. I mean hell, there was only one Dragon type pokemon, and that guy was invincible except for Ice moves. The whole thing was imbalanced as fuck.
And then we have these guys who are always Rock/Ground combos. Hit them with a Water or Ground moves and you get 4x damage. Talk about weak.

Re: Andrew Laine
Grass is super effective against rock in pokemon, always has been. Also effective against ground making it 4x effective against things like onix/geodude, Grass pokemon generally suck though.
Pokemon matchups just don't make sense.
Dragon pokemon are still overpowered as fuck, but psychic were overpowered first generation. All of them had godly special attack, were very fast, had great supporting moves (amnesia in particular, also hypnosis, twave...), nothing resisted them and the only weakness they had was a non-issue as all bugs sucked.

You get Alakazam or Mewtwo, give them Ammnesia and Psychic, and watch them fuck the hell out of the other team and never go down. And then in generation two the only strong bug move went to a guy who's second type was fighting, thus humiliating him. And Dark moves fucking suck.
Things have gotten better, but yeah, Dragons and Psychics are still too strong,

Re: Andrew Laine
Yep, Gengar was the only counter to first generation psychics, but they made it super weak against them type wise. Total bull, but then again, Gengar would have been total bull if it wasn't weak to anything but itself.
They should have made Gengar Ghost/Electric and called him Pikaboo.
