lol at people buying computers from 'computer companies'. Buy the different parts and build it yourself, if you cant manage that pay the dude 50 bucks to assemble it for you, you end up with a better machine and you will save shitloads of cash. (im talking about desktops btw)

I can agree with most said in here. I have both Laptop and Desktop computer, but prefer the laptop as its quicker on start up, Alot more convenient space wise throughout my day to day work and just alot more simple in comparison.

But the one thing that is a major piss of, as stated was Wireless.
Wireless connection pisses me off when i connect to my own router which is from where i sit right now, less than 1M away from me telling me i have "low" connection, but i can connect to a complete strangers Wireless connection and have a "Great" connection.

Thats just low and completely bullshit.

I got to say this rant is pretty worthless. A system will operate the same using the same parts/OS regardless if its a laptop or desktop. Only difference is it will cost you more for the laptop when you can get high spec system in desktop form cheaper. More than likely your moms laptop is using low grade parts.

Not to mention since a lot of people probably don't realize it but more ram doesn't equal a better system. Systems with less ram can easily out perform a system with a lot. HD's have different access speeds and Ram also has different variations of access speed. Like women, its quality over quantity.

As jmj102 point out, a custom built system can be better than a manufactured one simply because of cost alone. The money wasted on a brand name can easily go towards better spec components. The only thing you don't get is the tech support from a manufacturer which most people already realize is worthless anyways.

Anyways congrats on your new system, even though you turned your back on E-machine.....hehe

We bought and HP about two years ago and those bastards never sent us the rebates. The thing is a piece of crap. I think it was broken when we got it. The fan turns on for no reason some time.

Laptops are nice if it is an Apple Mac.

I always have and I always will.
At the moment I have a Apple Macbook Pro, which is just on a year old. It's absolutely perfect, except for a few scratches on the front of the case, because I use it so much, and it could do with some more RAM (Photoshop ), but other than that, It's awesome. I prefer them to desktops because the laptops of today basically offer the same (if not more) power/grunt/whatever you want to call it, as desktops, with the added bonus of portability. I'll admit, a big screen is great; But I've got a Sony Bravia that I use via PC link, to watch movies etc on. via my laptop.

So yeah...I feel your concern about laptops, particularly Dell's. In my experience, (having owned one), Dell's are pretty rubbishy. They're way to basic.
Still that was a few years ago....

I'm happy with mine. I actually prefer a touchpad to a mouse. Go figure
