To the post by adddog, what evidence do you have to support your theory other than the word which came from The Bible?

I don't hold anything against people for being religious but i personally will only believe what's put in front of me - unless the evidence is sufficient enough to prove otherwise. There is absolutely no evidence of God's existance other than that which comes from an age old book. How can you trust the bible? It's biased text. I've read enough from it to determine for myself that what Jesus is alleged to have done, is quite frankly impossible. If it's impossible, it can't happen. If it can't happen, it didn't happen. In my mind, it's as simple as that. I've read things before about Jesus walking on water and fully feeding thousands of people with a couple of pieces of bread...it isn't impossible. It didn't happen.

The Big Bang theory is far more understandable. As far fetched as it is, it's possible. An incredible force creating the world out of nothing in 7 days is almost as ridiculous as it is scientifically impossible.

You could go on forever about how you can only truly understand religion when you "find" the belief. In my opinion, if you try hard enough, you can believe anything as if it were fact. Why do you think there are so many different forms of religion? Surely if God was this one overpowering force, he'd have the belief of the whole world. There are countless seperate religions, all with different beliefs and rules. What makes Christianity any more plausible and real than the others?

addog, I'm suspicious of your claim that you've read the entire Bible, in its "real" form (as opposed to watered-down editions such as The Good News Bible). It is a massive, massive book. I've tried on several occasions to read it, just to get a better idea of what I'm talking about, but never get very far as it is very, very dry and repetitive. That said, I'm also not particularly interested in its teachings, but if you are then I can perhaps understand how you would have managed to trawl through it.

On the subject of Hell, I'm sure you're right about your Church, although I couldn't see where you said what denomination you follow.

Catholics, of course, do things slightly different. They have Pergatory, where they can go to work off their sins before getting promoted to Heaven. That, of couse, is assuming they haven't already made up for their mistakes by telling the Priest ("Confession") and saying a couple of Hail Mary's.

Digressing a little, I find it concerning that if you took the word of the Catholic Church as it is written, then masturbating is a greater religious offense than raping a Nun, on the grounds that the latter provides the opportunity for procreation. I think that more or less sums it up, to be honest.

You also say that you had your doubts in some of the Bible's stories. You mention that you had trouble believing the story of Adam and Eve as well as Noah and the Ark. But you say that you've never doubted the story of Jesus. I'll grant you Adam and Eve and the Creation of man (ignoring for now the talking serpent and the fact that somewhere down the line, someone must have slept with his mother) might be a little unbelievable to say the least, but personally I consider a great flood and some animals (probably not all) more likely than someone rising from the dead and sharing his fish sandwich with so many people.

I said in my first post that I have no problem with anyone believing in whatever they want, as long as they don't involve me in it. You've done exactly the opposite of that, which is what has pushed me to write this retort. I'm not trying to argue or anything, I just think it's wrong to try and influence other people's beliefs.

I can call you a fucking moron for believing in the big bang. For believing in evolution, that man was once an ape.

Do any of you realise that they have NO idea how the Earth was really created? The big bang in speculative science. It sounds good, so they started to use it. Eventually they used it so much that they started to believe it. But don't take it all for fact. Because they guessed on ALL of it.

As I said before, religion is based solely on faith. And BDV1, you said that "I believe the theory that God was just made up to make children less scared of dying and wanting to lead a good life".

Do you realise how long the belief in God has been around? You're talking like it's new trend. It's been around for thousands of years. The Muslims and the Jews were the ones to start it. At one point the belief in only one main god; God, was so vast that the Egyptians only worshipped one God. Aknatan, the pharoah spread that. That could be by chance, or maybe it was supposed to happen. How do you know?

Everyone who has knocked God here, seems to be focusing on the period of Jesus. Muslims and Jews don't believe in Jesus. I myself, don't neither. I believe he was the son of God, but I don't believe he was God.

As for Rajah and Flash; you guys are way off. Not all Catholics are like that. Chances are if the people of that church truly want to be a large, million dollar place, then they've lost faith. They're hipocrats praying to something they don't truly want.

I can truly tell you, that most Catholics are not like that. So before you attack something you don't know, learn more about it. And save your shallow minded responses, because I AM right. I know, I AM a Catholic. I think I know more about MY religion than you.

So anyone that doesn't believe, I'm fine with that. But don't try to tell me I'm wrong for believing. Perhaps you're the one who is really wrong for not believing. It's our right as human beings to worship whatever or whoever we want. Don't critisize something you know nothing about.

I've answered this before
I was raised a cathloic, an Irish Roman Cathloic at that...
an for atleast 12yrs ive had NO interest in my "faith", Catholisim to me is pointless... to many "rules" well we have 10 definite "rules" but theyve changed them to suit there own needs along the way,
Ie: No meat on a Friday

Also in ireland the cathloic church is a dying corupt institue, from incidents of priests raising families(THE LEAST OF THEYRE SINS) to abuse of children, both mentally, phycially an sexually... The christain brothers for exmaple, well know for beating the hell (where the phrase comes from)out of all the children in its care,
an dont get me started on the nuns....

Also the fact that 10yrs ago a well know irish bishop, The Archbishop of galway Eammon casey, was found to have been the father of a child, not only that but he "looked after" the mother an soon... albeit with the help of some church funds... He for his crimes was sent to deepest south america for his sins, to be a missionary...

But

take a curate, who for 20 odd yrs abused children as young as 4 an when complaints were made, he was simply moved to another parish, with no punishment. AND add to the fact that he never ever showed any remorse for these crimes when he was caught an after he was found guilty of over 100 sexual assualts he was STILL a priest... there are the reasons i dont believe, there are the reasons i renounce my faith

This piece of paper I got from some old guy told me this stick in the park was magical, I go to it once a week and talk to it. Sometimes I talk to dead people through it. I don't understand how people can doubt the stick. I mean, has no one else read the piece of paper? It's got to be true. Look how devoted to the stick I am. No one knows the stick like me.

Isn't that in a way what the bible did as well?

Yeah, people are willing to believe bullshit from religion, but not Science. It's like the rules.
