Lol, very true. There are hundreds of rappers out there trying to get signed, a select few got lucky. Not because they have talent but because they knew the right people, 50 cents was a nobody for years before he met Eminem

Some rappers do give back to their community. E-40 for example gave back to his hometown of Vallejo California, even though he's living in Blackhawk right now. Personally I can't stand 50's style of rap with this who being shot thing. The rappers I like don't rap about that kind of stuff anymore.

Ludacris put millions back into his community. There are a handful of very talented rappers out there but mainstream in dominated by nothing but modern day amos and andies (read a history book kiddies)

Good point. That's why I don't listen to mainstream anymore. Some mainstream rappers are good, but very few.

These damn middle class rappers are the thing that is ruining hip-hop. The thing is, I don't listen to rap. But growing up, I lived in the worst neighborhood in Denver. I know what it was like, and so I ask this: why do rappers need to be from a bad neighborhood to be a good rapper? Respect? Material? I don't know. But I feel insulted that these guys can just rap a few lines about the projects, and suddenly they're cool. And if they care so damn much about the ghetto, why don't they give back to it, like Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube?
They don't all to be from the ghetto and rap about it, but hey,you rap about what you know and live through. If you lived in a ghetto, the that's what you're gonna rap about. If you felt a certain way during your childhood, your gonna rap about it. It's not being fake or ruining hip hop, hip hop is only growing and expanding to a worldwide phenomenon.

Hip-hop's gonna implode on it's self. Hell, it's already starting to in a way.

Look at the style of it. For years it's gone nowhere. It's the same tired outfits...Basketball jersey, chains, backwards/sideways baseball caps, and baggy jeans. Switch up a few slang words, and it's no different than it was 7 or so years ago.

Now the shit's so damn watered down and stagnant, it's amazing that it makes as much of a buzz as it does.

One day, the kids'll wake up from the trance and see it for what it is. Overly produced rubbish with a contribed "cool" exterior.

I mean honestly. When all these people go to their 10 year high school reunions, are they gonna be boppin around to Fiddy? Fuck no! It's got no longevity, thus, it won't last.

You can only rap what you have lived through or feel. If you're living the life with bling-bling, then that's what you're gonna rap about. Doing otherwise to try and be different would actually be fake. As far as it's longevity, that could be argued. Fifty's music is very well done and I'm sure some would still be club favorites at some places.
