Re: damaged wrestlers

I've been through the training as a wrestler. While I never did a top rope elbow drop, I have done standing ones. In my opinion punk has been able to do the elbow drop in a safe way for him and his opponent. Where I trained the mat didn't always have a lot of give to it, while I never bumped in a wwe ring, I'd imagine that they are built a lot safer than any ring I've been in. I would be pretty surprised if punk hurt himself on the elbow (with the exception of someone moving, slips etc.)

As for who is too damaged to get any further. I would say any of the old WWE veterans who keep re-doing their gimmick for local crowds. The ones in their 'greatest hits' phase. People like val venis, x-pac, billy gunn, godfather etc. Not to say they can't be road agents take a look at road dogg. But based on their age and everything I highly doubt they'll ever get past the stigma of their established characters.

Re: damaged wrestlers

I'm talking about Punk's dive to the outside onto the table not his top rope elbow

ah yeah thats a bit different. Reason he got hurt there was the table didn't break. Just landed on it the wrong way.

Billy Gunn's the head trainer at NXT and somewhat of a road agent so he's pretty much set. I think X-Pac signed a similar deal with WWE recently as well.

Re: damaged wrestlers

I would have to say deathmatch workers like Necro Butcher.

Another wrestler who is damaged is Kurt Angle due to his history of neck problems. He has also slowed down his wrestling style recently.

He has? I remember him jumping off the top of a steel cage, taking a chest bump as short as two years ago.. and wrestling with a torn hamstring.. Of course he's on so many pain killers.

Re: damaged wrestlers

It's difficult because wrestlers seem to either get injured by working or by the drugs they take to deal with the pain.

Punk, Morishima Takeshi, KENTA, Samoa Joe, Misawa, Kobashi, Dynamite, Liger
