ROH World Championship respect level.
So, how high of a level do you guys think the ROH World Championship has going for it these days? I remember back in 2003-2008 guys were totally chomping at the bit to get near the belt and it was well respected within the industry, I still feel as if it carries a lot of respect still but maybe not as much as in that time period. I do still feel that unless your in the WWE or wrestling overseas that the ROH World Championship is the belt that you want to win, but it just feels as if the best competitors have kind of come and gone already and that it's on a bit on a decline. But then again I haven't really checked around to see what it's respect level is these days, but I do give it a ton of personal respect and feel it's the #1 non-WWE championship in the world (along with the IWGP).

Re: ROH World Championship respect level.
Doesn't mean much to me nowadays. Even with a talent like Kevin Steen holding it. Company has just dropped off far too much.

At the same time though, what indy title means more? Can't say any come to mind as meaning more than the ROH world title. AAW, CHIKARA Grand champ, DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate are up there, but I can't say they mean more. PWG is close but I would still say ROH eeks that out.

The only title close to the ROH title is the IWGP Heavyweight Title wich i think is the most respected of all.

Re: ROH World Championship respect level.
respect should be your perception. do you always ask people how you should feel about subjects?

For me it's behind WWE/World/TNA but in front of all other indy titles

Not too sure where I'd put it in relation to Japanese titles but would probably put it above Mexican world titles

Re: ROH World Championship respect level.
Despite the fact that ROH has been going through a pretty lengthy stretch of being bad they still have been protecting their title. Everyone in recent memory has had lengthy reigns where you really felt he guy with the title was the best guy on the roster. The only title reign that I would say wasn't booked very well was Strong's. And they got the belt off of him pretty quickly once you could tell things weren't going well.

From what I can remember all of their title changes are a really big deal. I was in the arena when Eddie Edwards won the title and it was a really special feeling. It wasn't just a regular match and the only thing that made it special was the fact that title was on the line. Same goes for when Davey and and Steen won the title. Those were both huge moments that had been built up to for months. ROH doesn't hot shot their title and when you do get he title it really means something.

I'll be one to talk about how much I dislike ROH right now and how I hate virtually all the changes that they've made over the last couple of years (aside from Steen) but the one thing that has remained fairly constant over the years is that they keep the title prestigious.

I think Chikara is one it's way to making their title a really prestigious one but they do need to make a title change for it's prestige to really increase. Right now it's just Kingston's title and that's it. Now his reign has been good but I think it's time for a change if they really want to make that title mean something.

Yeah, the key is not to confuse state of a promotion and lineage of a title.

Re: ROH World Championship respect level.
By that logic many would need to give the WWE Championship some credit too then.

For me the ROH World Championship doesn't even feel like the same belt once it got changed. As odd as that may sound I just don't buy it as being in held in the same regard like it used to be. Feels like it doesn't have the great linage behind it that it actually does. I stand by my opinion. It doesn't mean much of anything to me nowadays. Only to springboard talent at the top of the shows. That's about it.
