NJPW as of late....

So, I've been away from the pro wrestling landscape as it pertains to Japan for quite a while but back when I was heavy into it I was an avid NJPW fan. I was just wondering if there is a good amount of NJPW fans here on the boards and if so I wanted to ask how the company has been lately. I'm very interested in getting back into the swing of things and getting some of the bigger shows between 2010-current and wanted to get some opinions about the product before I dive in for a large order.

Also, how are they treating the IWGP Heavyweight Championship as of late? It was always well respected when I was avidly watching and in hoping that its still the premier title overseas.

Re: NJPW as of late....

NJPW is probably the best promotion in the world right now. Check out King of Pro Wrestling 2012 and WrestleKingdom VII.

Re: NJPW as of late....

NJPW is the best promotion in the world right now. There's so much good stuff from last year alone. Check out key matches from WrestleKingdom VI, New Beginning, 40th Anniversary show, Dominion, the G1 and King Of Pro Wrestling.

Re: NJPW as of late....

I used to watch it a lot but have fallen out of the loop. 2013 I'm definitely getting back into them.

Re: NJPW as of late....

I just loved NJPW because it felt like a real sport and wasn't bogged down by too much in the way of storyline and "sports entertainment", it really felt like it was a true respected sport and that's what drew me in so much. I'm seriously going to go back and brush up on the past couple of years as well as try to build my NJPW library, it should be fun to get back into NJPW and stay current with it as it evolves.

One thing I LOVED is when they would do press conferences with the champions and challengers, it made the title bouts really seem important and it helped to build the story better than some drama-filled made for television spectacle. That and they really seemed to build the titles up and make winning a belt something special and meaningful, something WWE lacks unfortunately.

Re: NJPW as of late....

the last couple of major New Japan iPPV's have been some of the best wrestling I have seen in a long, LONG time.

the January 4 show this year already has card of the year wrapped up. I can't imagine any show being better than that one.

Re: NJPW as of late....

I am 90% sure NJPW will have a show that people will think rivals that one and 100% sure that PWG will have one that people think tops it.

Re: NJPW as of late....

NJPW is the best promotion in the world bar none at the moment. Both King of Pro Wrestling and Wrestle Kingdom 7 have been two of the best shows I've seen in the past 5 years.

Re: NJPW as of late....

Were you a NJPW fan when NOAH was the hottest thing in Japan? Circa 2006? There had to be a couple of years there were NJPW was in the shadow while NOAH was the hot thing.
