Re: Random question: A hand full of tights
Holding onto the ropes is the one that stymies me. I can think of two times in history when it actually looked like the heel had more leverage because they had a limb on the ropes in some way.

Yes, i think wrestling should be held to the same standard as every other fiction medium.
Movies, Tv, literature...
If it was, it would be ten times more entertaining. People would actually forget they're watching a predetermined match and root for the characters more.

Hey, at least there's some physics at play there, with the ropes being a relativley stable thing to push off of.
But your right. It's stupid. Looks cool though, when done right.

Re: Random question: A hand full of tights
People just putting a hand out and grabbing a rope is dumb. That should actually have an adverse effect on the man going for the pin as it's one less hand you're using to pin the man.
When people support their legs on a rope to gain leverage that's fine.

Re: Random question: A hand full of tights
Presumably its illegal to pull at the opponents attire in amateur wrestling, and this is where it comes from. It certainly is in MMA and in no-gi Jiu Jitsu.
Reason: it gives a leverage advantage and increases your ability to manipulate the opponent. Try pulling a girl by the underpants, next time you're in a nightclub. See if it has any effect.

Re: Random question: A hand full of tights
Adds leverage for the wrestler holding the tights to pin the shoulders to the mat for the win. Classic "unfair advantage" stuff.

Great explanation.
Still doesn't work for me, not realistic. what I mean is, it's not SUCH an advantage that I think the bad guy is actually cheating in any way.
But props for being able to slap some science into this. At leaast now I know what they're trying to say, which was the problem I had with it in the first place.

Re: Random question: A hand full of tights
In a standard schoolboy, the pinner's bicep on the opponent's crotch, and their hand near the pinnee's face, or on the mat. The pinner's weight should be on the opponent's body, trying to put as much weight on them as possible. The tights gives extra leverage, and if one wanted to lift their shoulders up, it's more difficult that they cannot get the leverage to kick out, because their tights are being pulled on.
However, they execute it horridly every time, and it looks more just like a normal pinfall; the tights would have no effect on one lifting up their shoulders.

Re: Random question: A hand full of tights
The worst is when ROH uses it as a finish to a 25 minute match.
