>Ring of Honor has announced that that the Defy or Deny match returns January 19th at the Turner Hall Ballroom in Milwaukee. In the non-title match, ROH Champion Kevin Steen faces Michael Elgin, Roderick Strong, and Eddie Edwards. Here are the rules of the match:
The rules of a Defy or Deny match are as follows: an elimination match in which if Edwards, Strong, or Elgin are the winner they will receive a future shot at the ROH World Title but should Steen be the last man standing, then the man he pinned to win will never receive another World Title match as long as Kevin Steen remains champion.

Elgin loses at Final Battle yet still gets to be a part of the match? Wouldn't it make more sense to reward someone for their big victory on the biggest show of the year? If you've got Eddie in there, maybe throw in Davey, otherwise why does Eddie get it and Davey doesn't? Fair enough, Roddy won his match, I'd say it would make sense to throw Mike Bennett in there for his victory over Jerry Lynn and possibly add Jay Lethal as well, althought it's obvious they're holding back on the Steen/Lethal rematch. But still, surely they could have some form of interaction between the two, adding more depth and another layer to the feud?
I don't know, I'm babbling, but I don't understand (with the exception of Roderick) why those three men were chosen.

Basically because ROH has failed miserably to create any fresh World title contenders during the last nine months.

Adding Steen and the extra stip to the match is overdoing things and making it complex to the point of being a turnoff. Isn't Davey exempt from a title shot while Steen is champ? That's maybe why Eddie's in but he isn't. Elgin shouldn't be in. Lethal probably should but you can't beat Lethal for whatever silly reason. Bennett I guess should be in over Elgin but didn't he just lose a title match?
Fuck. I'll never get those few minutes of my life back questioning ROH's booking logic. Damn.

Well Davey already can't have another title match while Steen's champ, Lethal can't have a match with Steen period and I don't think Bennett's booked on this show. Don't ask me about Elgin though. But it's pretty much like flag sabbath said, only guy out there that can challenge now for a match people would care about (because why build up a guy like Adam Cole) is whiny babyface (for now) Jay Lethal, and at the rate they're going that might not last long.
Also sad that ROH can't even keep their stips straight with changing the Defy or Deny rules and that Matt Hardy is booked for this show.

Re: ROH "Defy Or Deny 2012" - Millqaukee, WI, 01/19/2013
Actually I think the booking is logical. Steen has faced all these guys for the title already I believe so it makes sense that they would go for another shot. Davey can't face Steen for the title so obviously he can't be in the match. Lethal already has a title shot so him being in the match isn't possible either. So they put 3 of their top guys (two who are formers champions) in the match with Steen. I have no problem with what they're doing. They did one before and I thought it worked really well (actually it's one of the last ROH shows that I enjoyed).
Not that any of this makes me more interested in ROH at all but I figured I could at least defend them for doing something that isn't stupid.

Sounds like a fairly bland match already. Wished Lethal was in it over Elgin. Seems like more of a reason to fuel Lethal's gimmick is why he wasn't stuck in the bout to begin with.
I'll hope Adam Cole has a solid opponent and that's about it.
